I just got a great job I was going for! Hey, guys! I'm sooooo excited!
I've been working part-time for the past two years in the medical records office at a hospital and also going to school part-time. I had the worst hours in the world, I'd usually do just 10 hours on weekends, every weekend, except when they needed me to fill-in. Yuck! My parents were paying for school for me, but we've fought a lot over the last year and they stopped paying it. I didn't have money to go to school last semester, so I was dropped from their health insurance, and it's been so much stress. I ended up having a bad asthma attack and having to go to the ER and paying out of my pocket, so that started a long chain of things. I've been working to pay for the hospital and paying off what I owed to the school, and have been so broke and struggling and miserable. I haven't even been able to drive for the last year because I haven't had money for car insurance. I've put out so many resumes, and went on all different interviews for a while now, and nothing. I've even been applying for things I was overqualified for and still getting turned down even before speaking to anyone. It's been so frustrating! I was trying to get a job in a hospital because it has the best benefits, I already have medical office experience, and I was going to school for nursing. A few weeks ago, I applied and interviewed for a job in the hospital I work at now for a full-time position as a unit secretary, so I'll be working on the actual medical floors. It's a great job for me because I can combine the office work I do now with the units, so I can get a little experience working in the same environment I'll be working in as a nurse. But, a lot of people from our place have been interviewing for this position, and I haven't been feeling too confident about the job after so many failed job opportunities, so the last week I've been really pessimistic about the whole thing. I was certain I didn't get the job. Anyway, I just got home from vacation yesterday, and played back my answering machine messages. I received a call from the woman I had interviewed with, and she asked me to page her. I paged her right away, and she called me immediately and offered me the job! I put in my two weeks to my manager, and I've got this weekend and next weekend to go, and I start as a unit secretary on Monday, August 30th. I'm sooo excited! I just got all of my "debts" paid off with school and the hospital, have saved back for my car insurance, so I'll be driving again within a few weeks. I've got full health insurance which will kick in as soon as I start the job (no waiting a few months since I've already been working here part-time), I'll be able to start saving up for my own place, I can go back to school, too, and the hospital will pay for my schooling flat-out, and I get to wear scrubs, too. | |
