Byron, I love when you do this...art is so subjective, there are so many possibilities.

Here's my take:

It's your subconscience opinion of drinking...

*The obvious clue is XXI, Roman numeral 21, the legal drinking age accepted around the USA. The fact that XXI is shadowed tells me that you think a person is just a shadow of
their potential while intoxicated.

*The subject is a young man, a group very much affected by alcoholism (frat and bachelor parties)

*The fact that his mouth, the area where alcohol is consumed, is the only affected
area

*The "fang-like" symbol above his lips appear to suggest that an "evil" force is at work.

*The young man appears quite normal, except for this flaw...sound like an alcoholic?

It represents a man in the 21st century. In his eyes you see his desire to speak in a world he feels cut off from. He both desires to say nothing more and yet fears the outcome of that inaction.

I did give it some thought though : It seems like this man has just discovered that his utterance actually conflicts with his (framed) thought about the subject. An "erlebnis" if you will. This is repeated in the glyph of the rigid, bold-type unbendable XXI, while the shadow is less certain. Dunno if it is an american saying but here in holland they sometimes say : his mouth fell open (literally translated )
