how great are the new Nike spots?

My favorite is the girls on the tennis court & the hot tennis instructor dude. They all turn into Serena Williams as they're practicing w/ that "he needed meeeee!" song playing. Commercials are often SO shitty, I love when they make a good one you don't mind watching for a change. Excellent spot smile

Also, the one w/ the little girl who sees something that scares her so she runs screaming down the street, turning into Marion Jones the whole run. As she gets inside the safety of her front door, she's the little girl again. The caption reads "you're faster than you think" thumbs up!

There's another one, can't remember how it goes though. Anyway, these are some great spots. I guess Nike is always pretty interesting but these are GREAT clapping

The Serena one is pretty cool.

Doesn't get old from watching it either.

Have you seen the Adidas ad where all the people are jumping on the guy's back forming this huge ball of crowd?

I think "He's Got the Whole World" is playing in the background.

People jumping off buildings but it looks like it's holding them all up as he walks along-very cool stuff.

cool

No, I haven't seen that one, but I watch the olympics every night when I get off work so I'll probably catch it smile

It's been mostly on CBS I think, but it'd be perfect to show.

Those are all great ads! Was it Nike a few years back with a similar campaign with a woman running through the woods to escape a Jason Voorhees type killer? I really like the Adidas ad with footage of Nadia Comaneci's Olympic uneven bars routine superimposed with the young girl doing her routine at the same time. Very sweet.

Nike makes me cranky.....

and the fact that they've jacked a song from a movie I happen to like (the live action Popeye with Robin Williams and Shelly Duval) makes me even crankier.

NIKE is evil edit.

Nike pulls 'insensitive' ad

http://www.abc.net.au/new...177083.htm

Nike Australia has withdrawn a television ad which child protection groups condemned as "insensitive and inappropriate".

The ad shows a group of teenage tennis players trying to impress their young male coach, with each turning into tennis star Serena Williams.

The ad was launched during the Olympic Games coverage on the weekend and comes just weeks after former tennis coach and Victorian teacher Gavin Hopper was jailed for sexually assaulting a former student.

Joe Tucci from the Australian Childhood Foundation raised concerns over the ad and said regulatory authorities should take a second look at it.

"It's in what the ad suggests that the difficulty lies," Mr Tucci said. "There are a number of meanings you can give to that ad and one of them is disrespectful to young women.

"That's the sort of issue that needs to be considered, especially if they are going to be showing it at times when a lot of young people are watching and that's during the Olympics."

Nike Australia has apologised to those offended by the commercial and says it now believes it was inappropriate to be aired in Australia.

Mr Tucci said the ad portrayed a disrespectful attitude towards young women.

"We do see stories out there about young women and coaches, where the young women have been taken advantage of," he said.

"Advertising needs to reflect a better sensitivity to respectful relationships between adults and kids and I don't think this ad does."

On hearing the ad had been pulled, Mr Tucci added: "I'm very pleased that they've taken this step and I think it shows a healthy respect for their clientele and for all young people really in Australia."

But he says the company should also consider withdrawing the ad internationally.

Aren't we all glad to have people like this so no one has to actually make up their own minds about how they feel about this?

confused

How is the ad disrespectful? Now they're looking any excuse to get their names in print.

Because of the "The ad was launched during the Olympic Games coverage on the weekend and comes just weeks after former tennis coach and Victorian teacher Gavin Hopper was jailed for sexually assaulting a former student" bit, apparently.

I got this from abc.net.au - "EDMOND ROY: International tennis coach, Gavin Hopper is starting a three-and-a-half year prison term after being sentenced for indecent assault and gross indecency against a teenage girl in the 1980s.

Hopper was the girl's physical education teacher at an exclusive Melbourne private school.

He now runs a tennis training academy on the Gold Coast with former Wimbledon champion, Pat Cash, and has coached many of the world's leading players, including Mark Philippoussis and Monica Seles." (http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2004/s1170906.htm)

I mean, I can see how the ad was inappropriate in light of this, but anything can be read as inappropriate if you look for it.
