On a side-note on the spyware detectors: Search & Destroy is a little less secure in what really is spyware or not, but it does allow you to remove valuable stuff.
Ad-Aware (lavasoft.com) is also a good, free, spyware removal program. I use it on a daily basis and it never removed anything my PC needed.

To be honest, I'm not terribly thrilled with Search & Destroy - thanks Alfie for recommending Ad-Aware. I just downloaded it and I'll give it a shot.

And Tom, I also just downloaded DeepBurner - I'll letcha know how that goes. thumbs up!

I ran Ad-Aware and deleted a monumental BUTTLOAD of spyware and yuckware of varying toxicities....and now all my CD burning programs work just fine. I think my PC just got constipated from digesting too much SPAM. eek

so like with realplayer and windows media, i should just go to the sites and act like i'm installing them over again? should i delete what i already have and start from scratch, or just overwrite what i already have, or does it even matter one way or another?

i hate technology, i wish i were amish. mad

Being it's a problem with both Media Player and Realplayer, it's probably not a problem with them but rather an issue with your burner driver. If you don't have software specifically for your burner, then I'd look for the CD burner manufacturer's website and download the proper driver which may in fact be a better version than the one you have. You wouldn't have to delete what you have for this, just install over the previous version.

I tend to agree with MrJoker...

Damn, that was my tip!!!
Since you could still write, the problem was prolly not with the drivers or the software, but with the computer itself, i've had some of those horribly written cd's myself smile
