JediMaster said: Well, there are a whole lotta directions they could have taken, but didn't. I know Dark Horse did a storyline a few years before Alien 3 that all happened on earth. Newt, Ripley and Hicks had all returned safely, and years later the company finds more Aliens and brings them to earth. Naturally, all hell breaks loose, so Ripley, Hicks and the grown-up Newt are forced to take on the bugs. Personally, that sounds like a more entertaining flick, with a helluva lot more room for social commentary.
Oh, I read that. (And Ripley wasn't in it.) It was awful - the aliens overrun the earth while Hicks and Newt are written completely out of character. Then the sequel had a mad general/scientist type of story that were soon to become Dark Horse's very own tiresome alien-cliché, and in the third mini-series, Ripley returned, also written completely out of character. Certainly nothing I would want to see as a movie. But certainly I would label Alien Resurrection a Dark Horse cliché kind of story - it has both the mad general and the mad scientist. On a related note, Anderson claims the PG-13 thing was a studio mandate:

What is the world coming to? In all fairness, Joss Whedon hates that film, and claims they butchered his script. In fact, it was made fun of more than once on episodes of "Buffy" and "Angel" Personally, I'm enjoying his run on AXM so far. He's just trying to run from his responsibility, saying "it was the others' fault". I've read his script and thought it was worse than the movie. In all fairness, I think the director made a movie that actually improved on the script by cutting some of the more ridiculous stuff. Certainly the director's ending is much better than the one the scriptwriter had in mind. Joss Whedon wanted the newborn to get run over by a harvester on earth. I think the "getting sucked out in space" works better, because it's sort of a tradition for the Alien movies and he did it in a new and unique fashion that actually made one feel sorry for the newborn. Joss Whedon also had a scene reminiscent of Vincent Ward's ridiculous script for Alien3 (the one with the monks and the "head-bursters"!) - with a chase through a wheatfield onboard the spaceship. And Whedon had even more of the stupid pirates and I think it was a smart move to cut down on their number. You CAN have too many people for the audience to keep track off, especially when none of them are interesting characters to start with. Buffy and Angel were both terrific shows, and I'm totally loving Astonishing X-Men. I'm really hoping he gets the X3 gig. I have only seen a couple of episodes of Buffy and Angel. It's not my kind of shows. But I've read the first three issues of Astonishing X-Men and must admit that I am intrigued by them. Yes, he writes great dialogue, but so does Chuck Austen, really, so it has to stand and fall on whether the plot is any good. And I think the idea of announcing a cure for mutantcy and then deal with the moral implications seems promising, but I'll have to read the first storyarc before I can say whether Whedon did good or bad. Supposedly, some X-Man is about to get resurrected. I hope it is Colossus who died in another story regarding a cure. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

A friend of mine always watched it, and after two or three episodes in the third season, I was pretty much hooked. I know Phoenix is coming back, but that won't be in AXM. I really wish they would just leave characters dead when they die. I don't mind it so much with Phoenix, because that is pretty esssential to the idea of a phoenix, but all the rest should just stay that way. Its gotten to the point that it isn't remotely suspensful when they kill off anyone, because you KNOW they will bring them back. I was sorry to see Colossus go, but I knew damn well that it was just a matter of time before they brought him back. I'm tickled pink that Kitty Pyde is being given such a large role in AXM. Whedon said that her character was a major inspiration on the character of Buffy. would think that a person like yourself that constantly talks negative about Prince on a Prince fan site can't be taken seriously. In other words if your saying this is such a piece of shit then it probably rocks! If you think it rocks, then your taste in films is warped beyond repair. You misunderstood as always. Like I said I could care less about this movie and as long as I know my taste in films, music, and life itself is much better than any negative opinion you have. It must suck being you.
