Since when is calling yourself a bitch something cool or funny? I noticed here lately that some women have made it a trend to call themselves and one
another a "bitch" There's a difference between locker room chit chat jibber jabber when it would be just us ladies joking around but when we say it in public in front of men doesn't that make it almost okay for them to call us a bitch since we don't have a problem announcing it. I just think we as women have worked long and hard in order to gain our women's rights and show that we deserve to be just as equal as anybody in the world. To be derogatory agains't ourselves just doesn't seem like the right direction? notice I haven't said any specific names just to be fair! edit [This message was edited Tue Aug 17 14:56:38 2004 by loveJONES] The most difficult thing that you can do is to watch the person you love love someone else.

ok..I just spit out my drink..... its nia long in the avatar..... ok..I'll take the "HIGH" road if you will...I understand your point but at the same time, or the other side of the coin, what is a "bitch" in your definition. Some may not feel its a negative term...just like women calling each other "hoes" as a term of endearment. Personally, I've never heard a female call other female a bitch in front of a man unless they are about to beat each other down. Most of the time its in jest. Its all in what context the word is being used. I guess the argument is similar to the "N" word argument. I get both sides. I think we can't confuse "sarcasm" and jest with the loss of the fight for gender equality.

Let's be fair. Women have been calling each other "bitch" since back in my mother's day, at LEAST. Same with the "n" word. It's nothing new. Doesn't make it right or wrong, but let's not pin it on the new generation or something. It's so hard being white nowadays...

Ex-Moderator | Like others have said, you co-opt the word back to take the derogatory meaning out of it. Like some in the black community have taken back the n word, or gays have taken back fag, faggot and even queer.
When a man calls a woman a bitch, it's usually (at least used to be) cause she was just standing up for herself, or was loud, or "unladylike". If those are the definitions, some women wear that badge with pride. As for these days, it just kinda depends on who's using it, the tone, etc. whether it's really offensive or not. It's all about the context. |

I don't like to see a woman called a Bitch in any manner..
It sounds so degrading.. And we are so much more than that. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

I'm interested to know how and why one woman would describe another as a bitch.
Is it because it's in that you can relax and be comfy with the B word without worrying about being disrespected by friends because you are in the company of friends and those who are as strong as you are? Confrontational, assertive, domineering, overbearing, strong-minded, hostile, direct and blunt I guess are just a few adjectives that would be used to describe what we may call a bitch. Regretfully, I think from a male perspective, men will always describe such women as bitches until we accept that such women are indeed, truly great. With this in mind, I'd never refer to a woman as a bitch if I recognised such qualities in her. It simply shows a mans weakness is a woman’s strong personality. What female wants to be bothered with a weak-minded man?

A woman isn't called a bitch until she makes her voice heard...so in that case, I love to be a bitch.
