nod I watched the whole game and they just outplayed the US, plain and simple. They had the zone defense going and it completely paralysed the so-called Dream Team, they were awful!

I'm glad the US team lost, but this is not exactly our "A" squad. I mean our 3 best players all turned down the opportunity to be on the team (Garnett, Shaq, and Kobe). I would say that if everyone had said yes when asked the only players on the current team who would have made the team would be Iverson and Duncan.

The US Women's Dream Team are doing well.

Olympics notebook: The actual dream team

ATHENS, Greece -- The U.S. women's basketball team routed New Zealand in its Olympic opener. Five Americans scored in double figures, turning it on after a slow start.

Favored to win its third straight gold medal, the United States extended its Olympic winning streak to 18. Swin Cash, playing her first game in the Olympics, led with 19 points. Angela Marino led New Zealand with 13 points

The real Dream Team actually wants to be there

ATHENS, Greece - Basketball fans of America, it may be time to switch genders.

The men's team has been shaky, and apparently is composed mostly of those players who weren't creative enough to come up with plausible alibis for staying home.

They've approached lesser opponents with casual disdain and come away embarrassed. Defense has been beneath them at times, as if it's a chore they would rather delegate to a valet.

It seems as if they might be awaiting a coronation rather than working hard toward earning a gold medal.

As a comforting antidote, as a reminder of how far teamwork and positive attitude can propel a team, we present the USA women's basketball team.

The women are aggressive defenders, willing to work the ball around on offense ... and get this, they all want to be here.

In fact, they're not only eager to represent their country and fans, they're willing to dive all over the court, or take a shot to the chops, to prove it.
