One of the few Canadians I ever met was a fellow English teacher in Bangkok. When he was introduced in front of the entire school the only thing he had to say was 'is there a Mc Donald's nearby?' eek

Another Canadian I met ran a companion web-site to mine. Our combined sites were once shown on national Canadian television as the 'web site of the week'.

I'm quite undecided about Canadians. But then something comes to my mind:

Degrassi High; Everyhing is good.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

Alan Thicke...William Shatner...Celine Dion...Quebec...Todd McFarlane...Bryan Adams...Keanu Reeves...Dan Ackroyd...F#ckin' Toronto (love the city...hate the people)...
that's just some of the bad stuff that Canada has pooped out over the years...and we can't apologize enough for them

poutine fries...John Candy...Gilda Radner...The Tea Party...the Sutherland family...basketball (even though I don't much care for it)...hockey (same again)...Alex Trebek...Peter Jennings...half of Superman...Kristen Kreuk...
that's just some of the good stuff that has (for the most part) been taken away from Canada because this Dominion (Canada is NOT a country, btw) seems to be unable to do anything good with the talent we produce...the only thing we've managed to keep is poutine...an artery-clogging mixture of cheese curds, gravy, and french fries (sinfully delicious)...

so...no...don't blame Canada (as that wonderful South Park movie sings)...f#ck Canada...
if it weren't for the fact that we have one of the best health care systems in the world, I'd be outta here so damn quick...

...and...yes...I am Canadian...

A few notables:

Robertson Davies was an acclaimed, "worthy" novellist, but I personally find his writing rather dreary.

Mordecai Richler was a biting, cynical and occasionally hysterically funny writer.

William Gibson is a widely acclaimed sci-fi writer, but he's a transplanted American, so I guess he doesn't count.

Then there's that wanker who wrote the gen-x books, his name escapes me...no, I just remembered: Douglas Copeland.

Thanks!

I know Wyndham Lewis lived in Canada for a while and wrote his wonderful novel The Self Condemned while he was there!
