they are a little more expensive even though the prices have come down but they are really reliable and pretty virus resistant to microsoft-intended viruses.

Yeah, out of all of the ones I've been lookin' at. They are the most expensive. But if it's reliable, then I guess that's the best for the long run.

I'd never suggest a Mac to anyone without making sure they know the pros and cons of it.

Might as well go for a IBM-compatible laptop then and run Linux. lol

I have a Toshiba. Just got it two weeks ago, so I am still learning, but I tried to do my homework. I absolutely love the wireless capability. Especially since there are places around here that offer free wireless connection--like in coffeehouses and such.

Recently bought a Compaq omfg I was scared b/c I'd heard such bad things about Compaq computers. The guy @ the store (fucking salesmen mad ) told me HP bought Compaq or something & so Compaq had improved. He also said everyone's desktop computers are questionable but the laptops are more reliable (i.e., don't count out a Compaq laptop, but don't dare buy their desktop!).

Anyway, I use it for basic stuff - watching DVD's, word processing, etc. No problems yet, I love it. Plus it has a thingy to lock the mouse so you don't fiddle with it accidentally while typing (they probably all have this, lol) smile

HP/Compaq is good, but it's just a pain in the ass to fix problems yourself. I guess that's what they want though, more money for them to be made. wink

Mac's a whole diff. affair, like Joey said, you should become well informed before switching to Apple....not that it's bad, just you should be prepared for the switch....

Well, a White Shepherd is a bit too big to be classed as a lap-dog, but doesn't this one look cuddly?

The owner isn't too bad either.

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 5150 as a second computer to use on the road. I didn't pay attention though to how heavy it was when I ordered it. It's a nice computer but it practically dislocates my shoulder when I have to carry it around all day.

Does anyone know if its easy to add an internal wireless network card, or if it can even be done on dell laptops? I didn't order it as part of my computer and now I wish I would have, and was thinkin about gettin one. I really didnt want to have a card sticking out the side of my computer.

You can purchase a wireless PCMCIA card which can be added to all laptops as long as there's a free PCMCIA slot. There are two types, 11Mbps (IEEE 802.11b) and 54Mbps (IEEE 802.11g). smile
