I agree wif Pantha Girl 100% nod

And I think, it's an individual thing too, what works for one may not work for another etc.

My advice is do lotsa walks, avoid anything with too much saturated fat, da sushi thing is a very good idea..but keep it balanced thumbs up!

Don't starve yourself...I went through a phase (although i had no weight problem disbelief) where id try and suppliment meals with juice or smoothie or just a fruit...simultaneously i'd excercise for at least an hour a day. Subsequently my metabolism did speed up quite a bit!! lol But i'm far more easier on myself these dayz cause back then i could barely concentrate on anything cause i had headaches due to lack of food!! Not good! no no no!

But da excercise thing was!! thumbs up! I used to spend alotta time on da stepper...and because of dat, and then when i started not eating too little during my lunchtimez...I had sooooo much energy!!! It's da best, and you feel good too!! thumbs up!

I say, keep motivated, and be confident all da while...treat yourself every now and then to keep up a realistic momentum and you'll be your desirable weight in no time!! woot!

I'm also into healthy food a lot and I haven't even heard about the atkins diet, was wondering what it is about...

Many of the rich n' famous in Hollywood swear by Atkins diet and is most popular amongst them. It advocates low carbohydrate and high fat intake. no no no!

The problem is the side effects are more severe then ppl like to think or admit. Some of those are as follows:

The human body gets its energy from calories, and carbohydrate calories in particular are the main source of energy for the human body, and if you attempt to lose weight by eating a low carb diet then you'll quickly find that your body will become weak and lacking in energy -- these are just some of the side effects of a low carb dieting program. Atkins is a low carb diet (low carbohydrates are eaten) and because of this fact your body will experience many negative side effects.

Ur body will be so starved for carbs (energy) that you will be physically WEAK all day long and your "blood sugar level" will be so low that your brain will have trouble operating correctly -- your reaction to things will be slower because of your "low blood sugar level" and your low energy level, which in return makes U feel miserable and weak. Physical illness is associated to using this diet program to lose weight , because your body will attempt to give you a signal that it needs carbohydrates -- and your body does this by making you physically sick and/or by giving you a severe headache (this is your body telling you to eat carbohydrates so that your blood sugar level can get back to normal and you can have energy again). This is why using a dieting plan like this won't allow you to lose weight or achieve your weight loss goals, it's just not a sound dieting program and it won't allow you to burn fat. The worst side effect I've heard about is from my friend that was on it because Hollywood swore by it, and she has abdominal & bowel troubles now, 2 years or so down the track.....sad

I'd rather stick to exercise, lotsa water & my balanced nutritional lifestyle choices. It's kept me slender for years. I hope the motivation and control keeps up Tisse, it ain't easy and it's a big step but I know U have it in U...
thumbs up!

HIGH FAT! omfg NO WAYYYY!!! Chrissie, u should get a PhD in dieting! Putting a big giant CO-SIGN to all this stuff! nod

I'm also a freak when it comes to having exercise, too much energy to spend (at work I spend my time sitting at my desk all day long! sad frustrating isn't it? wink)

If there's one advice I can give: get yourself some sushi y'all! drooling sushi

And for those who are wondering how to be in great shape, I hardly recommend swimming.
Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity

Here is on for you Natisse...

Cucumber Raita

This traditional Indian side dish or sauce is cool and delightful especially with spicy curries.

2 large cucumbers, peeled, seeded, and chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon salt
2 cups plain, nonfat yogurt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
Black pepper to taste

1. Mix the cucumbers, onion, and salt in a bowl. Let stand for 1/2 hour.

2. Drain off liquid, rinse well with cold water, and drain; then soak in cold water to remove as much salt as desired. Drain well.

3. Add the yogurt, cumin, and pepper. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Another one!

Monte Cristo Salmon Sandwich

Monte Cristo sandwiches are traditionally made with white bread filled with ham, turkey and cheese, dipped in egg, fried and served with sour cream and jam. Ours is a much healthier version using leftover or canned salmon.

2 slices whole grain bread
4 ounces cooked or canned salmon
2 tbsp salsa
1 egg

Flatten the bread slices as much as you can with a rolling pin or heavy can.

Mash the salmon and salsa together in a bowl. If the salmon is cold, heat the mixture in the microwave for 1 minute to take off the chill.

Make a sandwich of the bread with the salmon mixture in the middle.

Beat the egg in a bowl and pour into a saucer. Dip the sandwich in the egg so that both sides are coated. Fry the sandwich on a non-stick pan over medium heat for about 5 minutes, turning half way to brown both sides.

Serve with additional salsa if you like.

I don't think giving up junk food completely is realistic so I would suggest you limit yourself to one day a week where you can eat some junk. Also, the most important thing in losing weight is exercise. This will allow you to eat enough to not be hungry and still burn more calories then you are taking in.

you're absolutely right thumbs up! I am going to give myself a treat, but for now it won't be anything bad because I know myself and I'll revert back to my old ways if I even have a bite of something bad...my willpower will increase the farther I go eating healthy, tho, so that's the upside

I too am a junk food addict, but I am a runner who is marathon training and it's hard to gain weight while running as much as I do. The thing is when I stop running due to injury or whatever it's hard to break the junk food habit.

good on you for doing that!!! worship that's awesome!! my metabolism would be reeeeeal sluggish right now, tho, until I get a bit healthier...you're absolutely right it's hard to break the habit! I've never tried to quit smoking or anything like that but I tell you what it's a mental thing like any addiction!! it's very very hard to understand what it's like to try and curb your appetite or lose weight (especially huge amounts of weight, believe me) unless you've attempted it - just like anything else

I can't believe so many people have bought into the sham that is Atkins.

Think about it. There are proven health side effects. Atkins has products. Atkins has books. Atkins obviously has a killer marketing team. It even has a fucking logo!

Somebody's making money off this scam, and they don't give two shits about your health or your weight -only your money.

On top of the aforementioned problems concerning lack of energy and diminished brain functioning, following a low-carb diet for too long can lead to permanent liver and kidney damage.

Seriously, being skinny is not worth getting sick or doing yourself permanent damge over. If you think it is, you need to see a therapist -and fast!

So am I to take "different strokes for different folks" to mean that kidney and liver damage, loss of energy, and diminished brain functioning are A-OKAY for some folks?

Firstly chillout, secondly ur taking everything here out of content. Different strokes for different folks means we're all individuals and what may work for some will not work for another, common sense really.

If U read up a few posts U will see that I posted about Atkins, basically banishing it and saying it isn't a healthy substitute.

Alright. I apologize. I'm cranky today. mad

I would like to hear from people who've done the Atkins diet and why they thought it was a good idea. I asked this on another thread a bit ago, and not one person answered me.

I was wondering if I could ask for all your help...I've put on a fair bit of weight in the last 6 months and it's REALLY starting to scare me because I'm trying on clothes in sizes I haven't been into for a very long time sad

I need some food ideas/recipes/snacks that are healthy, cheap and easy to whip up using a microwave or a frypan. I don't use the oven or grill at all...

does anyone have ideas/recipes they can suggest to help me out? I'd be so grateful for any help. If I can start eating healthy (and I mean REALLY eating healthy not a halfassed attempt like I've been fooling myself with) then I'll be more motivated to get out there and exercise, too, which is essential for long term health and lots of weight loss

pray
