Have any of you bought furniture from IKEA? Know anyone who owns any? Good mail order stuff or cheap yuppy shit? Please advise.

Beware! The Onion, that legitimate news source, had an article about this recently, titled IKEA claims another 10,000 lifestyles. The article has gone, but here's a part of it:

Karl Westin is an actor who came down with a truckload of IKEA when he moved from Seattle to Burbank, CA, in 1996. In recent years, he has spent thousands of dollars eradicating it from his house.

"For me, it started slowly," Westin said. "I had a Poang—it's a form of chair—and I just couldn't seem to get rid of it. That led to a lot of other things I'm not particularly proud of. I indulged in Leksvik, Branas, even a Svingen. If you don't know what those are, consider yourself lucky."

BTW I have one piece of IKEA furniture, a book case, and it's a good piece of furniture. So I only caught a mild case of IKEA.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

I bought two beds for the guest room from Ikea. They're both sturdy and they are easy to clean. Not to mention that the wood smells great! smile The furniture ranges from expensive and indestructable to cheap and passable. It's your call what to buy.

By the way, the nightstand and the lamps that are on it (blue and green things you see there) were also bought at IKEA.

About 20% of what's in IKEA is good quality and nicely designed (at least to me)...worth the trip just to find the bargains here and there. nod

Some pieces of my furniture are from Ikea and the quality is okay. Some years back their designs were pretty much limited to light wooden cheap looking stuff, but that changed.
