Home improvement

Now that it's summer, hopefully our busy little lives have slowed down a bit - enough to take care of the leaky faucets, paint some walls, and tack up new pictures!

How's your dwelling looking at the moment? Have any ideas/plans for redecoration?

As for me, I'm renting out a room in a house, but the curtains are the ugliest things I've ever seen. I live in a converted sun room, so three of my walls are windows. My landlady made the curtains herself and they look like shit. Some have been exposed to the sun too long so they've faded considerably.

I bought new fabric tonight to cover up the curtains. I got like ten yards of nice fabric for $25! What a steal! I can't wait to get these grapes and leaves covered up!

woot!

I noticed that the second set of photos looked kind of sexy, but the lighting in my room is so poor that I couldn't do much better.

In any case, your response is FILTH!!!

I've been doing a lot of home improvement stuff myself smile I had to integrate about six boxes of stuff from my former office at work...so, that was a chore fitting everything in. But, I've also been doing some landscaping...cleaning out the basement...put up new house numbers and mailboxes with my new drill (which I am SO excited about!) I love the feeling of accomplishment when I've finished with a project. smile

I ain't afraid to say I am needy in some ways.

I got the kids to wash off the chalk drawings they had decorated the exterior of our house with. That was a huge improvement.

what about the floor Nat? Do you have carpets? I prefer wooden floors, but it depends how good the floor boards are.
The fabric you bought is lovely.

Wow! Looks like you're on the right track. As lleena said, the fabric is lovely!
As I posted a week ago, I'm buying all new furniture for when I move in 2 weeks. Couch, bed, TV, kitchen set, all of it. It might sound a bit like I'm spoiling myself, but I'm 29 years old and I've never purchased anything on this scale for myself before. I've never been one much for nice things, I've just always made do with whatever. My tv is about 20 years old and came from my parents, my bed belonged to my grandmother, which I got when she died, my end tables came from a previous roommate that didn't want them any longer, etc. I'm not in an economic state where I can buy a home, so I'm making up for it with making my new rented home the cutest darn thing ever. It's weird. I've been in a kinda depressive state of life lately and I feel like setting up the perfect apartment is my project to kick-start me back into better things. I think it'll work too. smile

The floor is a semi-nasty carpet. Unfortunately, since this place is rented and I'll only be here for the next year, I can only go so far in what I do - otherwise I'd be ripping up the floorboards, repainting the walls, and bringing in all new furniture!

gareth and I made some of the curtains last night. It's looking better already!

Carrie, I saw the couch that you bought, it's so nice! I would love to see your set-up once it's all said and done. Speaking of TVs, mine is starting to die... pooey.

I live in a busted up brooklyn brownstone so home improvement is a way of life for me. My room is looking nice, i have interesting picture up on the walls, a pillow nook, my plants, and rocking chair. the rest of the house could use some help though. this week, my task is to organize the kitchen and spruce up the bathroom. cripes, by the time i leave this place it's going to look completely different.
