I'm super-dooper happy today because I've woken up and discovered that I won an auction on Ebay for an unplayed maxi-cassette of U Got The Look. I'm going to play it once to archive it to MP3s and then put it away someplace safe.

So, I have this mini hifiset that includes my MD player that I want to hook up to my computer so I can share my 100+ personalised Prince loops. How to go at it?

It's easy peasy. You just need a piece of wire with two phono plugs at one end and a 3.5 stereo jack at the other.



Stick the 3.5 jack into your Line In socket at the back of your PC - it may be labelled as "LIN". Go into your Windows' volume controls and make sure that your Line In volume isn't muted.

Then you need a program to save the sound...

Goldwave used to be good - really easy to use - but later versions are garish and have too many pointless options. Try and find version 4.1. I think most people use Cool Edit Pro but I've never used it. I'm sure that other people will have more of an idea than me.

And here I thought gay men had absolutely no technical know-how, but it would appear that I'm the only one...

Now, I have to buy a CD-burner because there's no burn-option in my laptop. So I went to the store and suddenly I am faced with having to make a choice about which one to buy - my CD-R's says 48x and the Burner-boxes say 8x and 30x and 40x and what have we, but none of them says 48x and I don't even know what 48x means to start with.

So I went home empty-handed and still cannot burn my Chocolate Invasion to play on my stereo.

Advice, please...

I'm editing this post, because it's not very clear...

If your drive burns at 40x (40 times normal speed), the 48x discs will be fine. If however, you had a 52x drive and tried to burn to a 48x disc, you may get problems - even then, it's unlikely.

The speed printed on a blank CD is just the speed at which the maker guarantees the disc can be written to with no errors.

I've made a compilation album of Kylie B-Sides and rare tracks - don't worry Gooey, they're all post S/A/W tracks.

I'll post them separately, but you'll have to re-arrange them in the correct order because some of the tracks segue into each other - I had to do that to make them all fit onto one 80 minute CD.
