I understand! Britney is popular in the U.K but I wouldn't say that is why we wear them. Actually they were very popular in the 70s too.

Yes! just because she's wearing low rise jeans doesnt mean she has to wear a freakin bra top to show off her belly. Ive seen lots of big women that wear low jeans and they wear nice tops. They're not walking around looking like whales. Hell everybody has low rise cuz thats all they made when Mariah started cutting up her jeans.

And no just because they make in your size doesnt mean u should wear. But usually the women that go by that motto always wear the wrong size

It's not all they made, but I see your point. However, Low rise jeans were made to show off TONED stomachs....they are supposed to be worn with cute little tops....not big sweaters and what have you. If you wear a big top over low rise jeans, what's the purpose of wearing them?? Females with big bellies, in particular, like to wear what like skinny girls wear and they just can't pull it off.....Low rise jeans included

Smooches;)

Actually, if they are cut right low rise jeans can be very flattering on larger women. It's all in how it hangs off the hips and if they're not SO tight that rolls of body kinda pooch over the top. I'm not a svelte gal myself and I am currently wearing a pair of low rise capri pants in black denim with pink accents. And believe you me, I know my fashion. I would not walk down the street if I thought I looked unattractive or gauche.

So there. nana

How so? Low rise jeans hug the hips or hang from the hips as opposed to the waist Misha.

Not so much the 80s - that was definitely a high-waisted era - - but in the late 60s early 70s - check out the hippie girls - those were low rise jeans. Simply because they didn't make a lot of jeans for women back then and they wore men's jeans - and since women tend to have longer waists, they sat a little lower. Then came the hip-huggers - I have a much older sister and cousins, I remember all of this!

nod

Low-level pants on '60s swingers were called "hipsters."
Alexander McQueen reinvented them in the '90s as the basement-level "bumsters."
In 2002 Levi's remade them as "low-rise jeans"

I agree, hip huggers and low-rise jeans are the same. Also, I, along with half of the other girls in high school, were wearing them years before that Britney Spears video, so I wouldn't say she made them popular, especially since my high school wasn't exactly the epitome of fashion.

Workin in fashion retail, and given like many gals, my penchant for fashion, It's not alwayz da size dat'z da issue. Truly, it has 2 do with being comfortable, confident and knowing your body shape, and all its crevices well!! What suits a pair shape woman won't really suit an hour-glass and vice-versa, for example! It also has to do with differing heights too nod I'm statin the obvious here, i know this giggle but size is just one part of da factor in choosin da "right" shape or length of waistline for jeans, trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses, tops blah blah blah so yeah!

Personally, I like the low-rise jeans because they fit me better than those that sit higher up on the waist. I've got wider hips (boys used to call them "baby-makin' hips" when I was a teen and I wished I could chisle them off... mad ... still wish that, but that's beside the point) with a small waist, and if I buy jeans that can go over my hips, they're way too lose in the waist and I have to cinch it with a belt... which looks stupid. The low-rise jeans also make my ass and hips look better (in my opinion). Now... I don't wear them with any undies showing... personally, I think that's tacky... but, whatever floats your boat.

As far as heavier women not wearing them, or being able to... I think they can be flattering to women of all shapes and sizes as long as they're (the pants) the right size and people aren't squeezing themselves into them (this goes with any article of clothing... not just the jeans we're talking about). And, if the stomach is hanging out a bit, simply wear a longer shirt. I wear mine with longer shirts a lot of the time and I think it looks fine with both my low-rise jeans and pants.

That's just my two cents.

Same reason why I love them! I have a big ass and big hips, but I have a really small waist, so it's sooooo hard to find pants that fit right for me besides low-rise ones! I don't know what I'm gonna do when they aren't stylish anymore! I'll probably still wear 'em! Maybe we should stock up while we can find them! lol

I hear ya. Low rise jeans fit me way better, because my waist and butt aren't exactly well-proportioned, if ya know what I mean. Any pair of pants or jeans that fit my ass are going to be a few sizes too big in the waist.

There are several different cuts out there though. I'm not chunky, so if I wear low-rise jeans, it's not like anything's gonna be hanging out. However, I'm not as toned as I'd like to be, so there's no way in hell I could ever get away with wearing the super low-rise jeans.

I think they can work on anyone. Just make sure you get the right size and most flattering cut.

It's very hard to find pants to fit when you've got big hips, I know!! We definitely should stock up! Hopefully, when these go out of style, they'll bring out something that will flatter our shapes as well as these do... otherwise, we're back to cinching and alterations! (Or, like you said... stock the hell up now)!
