Anchorman - the worst movie of the year so far

I started a thread informing the good folk of the org that they needed to see "Before Sunset" because it was brilliant ( http://www.prince.org/msg/100/102235 ) so I felt I should also start a thread informing everyone to stay FAR away from Anchorman. It was BRUTAL.

You are crazy!!!

Anchorman is pure tongue-in-cheek cornball hilarity at it's absolute best!

The flute solo? The talking dog? The animated sex scene? "Look a Rainbow!" "Do me on it!"

Highly recommend if you're not against goofy hollywood because it's not "smart" enough. We all need to be stupid sometimes.

I'm not against that kind of humor as "Dumb and Dumber" "Old School" and "Caddyshack" are probably in my top 10 favorite movies of all time but Anchorman was TERRIBLE.

well saying they're good is one thing, but putting ANY of those movies in your top ten is just silly.

lol

I saw the first one on Lifetime a while ago. I couldn't figure out why they were playing a newly released film on TV already.

Anyway, it was annoying. Really incredibly annoying. And Ethan Hawke is

Like you know the parts of "Reality Bites" where he's all smart-assed, and greasy, and disgusting? I imagine him to be like that ALL of the time.

I know exactly what you mean about Reality Bites....I found it hard watching that movie again recently because he was supposed to be so cool....but I suppose it was of an era....but yeah, Ethan Hawke gives me the shits, too.

I'm really surprised. Really surprised. It seems odd that if you liked the first movie enough to wait nine years and then find a theater that is showing the sequel (it's in very limited release) you would have had more to say then "that movie is like an old man's ass."

I mean you would have to have liked the first one to see the second one right?

Station Agent was last year, and it was an excellent movie. No story? I'd be interested to hear the kinds of movies you think do have stories.

Anchorman was hilarious. So many funny scenes. Some stinkers, too, but I think the flute performance alone got me my money's worth. thumbs up!

Worst movie this year is either You Got Served, Connie & Carla or Soul Plane. Terrible...all of them.

Ancorman was inconsistent. Some very funny parts, balanced out with some incredibly dumb stuff that wasn't remotely funny. I wouldn't call it the worst film of the year, but I definitely wouldn't say it was great. Judging from what I've heard, it sounds like the "worst picture" honor goes to Catwoman. Even the preview was difficult to sit through.

Still (and I mean this as no insult to you, lovemachine), I can safely skip "Before Sunset", since I've seen some of your likes and dislikes. You hated "Spider-Man 2", yet you list "Dumb And Dumber" and "Old School" in your top ten. To say that we have fairly different tastes is an understatement, since "Old School" bored me, and "Dumb And Dumber" was one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Well, that's not being fair. I mean, Old School and Dumb and Dumber aren't my kinda films either, but because somebody likes them doesn't mean another film they like is going to be bad. You can't really compare somebody liking those two and Before Sunset. I've actually read a lot of great reviews of that one, and intend to see it eventually.

Lovemachine, you're CRAZY.

"Anchorman" was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time. The news crew "rumble"? "Afternoon Delight"? "I ate a big red candle"? I laughed so hard I think I cracked a rib.

Go see this movie!

I see your point, but I'm basing this on the fact that LM has also hated many films I've loved. Fairly obvious that we have almost opposite tastes.
