Another tragic loss.

I received an e-mail from a friend of mine that her son died after collapsing for an unknown reason a week ago. He had been in a coma for about a week. I don't know for sure, but I think he is about 10, maybe younger. He was always a sweet, sweet boy who was a joy to be around. The last time I saw him was 2 years ago, before I left L.A. After a dinner party at a restaurant, some of us got together at my friend's apartment. Her son was excited to show me his new pet frog, and to have me hold it as well. He freaked out when the frog peed on him. Sigh....

One of the first times he befriended me was about 5 years ago, when we were all still living in Denver. Another friend and I were babysitting on a Sunday afternoon. We were at a shopping center for some reason, and he made me run around the parking lot playing Star Wars with him. I had to be the bad guy. His excitement and abandon in having fun was an inspiration.

All of his organs have been donated to children throughout the country. Nice to know a part of him will live on, right here with us.

wow I am sorry to hear. So they don't think they will beable to discover why he collapsed? I hope the best for you and the family of the child. It is great that his parents are donating his organs so that other children can live.

I don't know if they will find what caused the collapse or not. The cause of death was brain swelling due to lack of oxygen. So sad. Thanks for your wishes.

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and love.

The night that I got the e-mail he had passed, I was on my way to the Hollywood Bowl to see Rufus Wainwright and k.d. lang perform with the L.A. Philharmonic. It was the night of the Blue Moon. Beautiful night to be outdoors under the stars. There were several times during k.d.'s set that I thought about Thomas. And everytime that happened, when my mind retruned to the show, k.d. was singing a line that spoke perfectly to what was on my mind. There is definitely peace in knowing he's in a better place, yet so much grief at his loss.
