Anchorman - the worst movie of the year so far I started a thread informing the good folk of the org that they needed to see "Before Sunset" because it was brilliant ( http://www.prince.org/msg/100/102235 ) so I felt I should also start a thread informing everyone to stay FAR away from Anchorman. It was BRUTAL.

The animated sex scene? "Look a Rainbow!" "Do me on it!" Highly recommend if you're not against goofy hollywood because it's not "smart" enough. We all need to be stupid sometimes. I couldn't figure out why they were playing a newly released film on TV already. Anyway, it was annoying. Really incredibly annoying. And Ethan Hawke is SUCH A PRETENTIOUS JACKASS Like you know the parts of "Reality Bites" where he's all smart-assed, and greasy, and disgusting? I imagine him to be like that ALL of the time. I mean, like, where is the sun?

mrdespues said: lovemachine said: I doubt you've seen it. doubt away...I've seen it. I'm really surprised. Really surprised. It seems odd that if you liked the first movie enough to wait nine years and then find a theater that is showing the sequel (it's in very limited release) you would have had more to say then "that movie is like an old man's ass." I mean you would have to have liked the first one to see the second one right?

Anchorman was hilarious. So many funny scenes. Some stinkers, too, but I think the flute performance alone got me my money's worth. Worst movie this year is either You Got Served, Connie & Carla or Soul Plane. Terrible...all of them. [This message was edited Tue Aug 3 6:03:43 2004 by RipHer2Shreds]

Ancorman was inconsistent. Some very funny parts, balanced out with some incredibly dumb stuff that wasn't remotely funny. I wouldn't call it the worst film of the year, but I definitely wouldn't say it was great. Judging from what I've heard, it sounds like the "worst picture" honor goes to Catwoman. Even the preview was difficult to sit through.
Still (and I mean this as no insult to you, lovemachine), I can safely skip "Before Sunset", since I've seen some of your likes and dislikes. You hated "Spider-Man 2", yet you list "Dumb And Dumber" and "Old School" in your top ten. To say that we have fairly different tastes is an understatement, since "Old School" bored me, and "Dumb And Dumber" was one of the worst films I've ever seen. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I mean, Old School and Dumb and Dumber aren't my kinda films either, but because somebody likes them doesn't mean another film they like is going to be bad. You can't really compare somebody liking those two and Before Sunset. I've actually read a lot of great reviews of that one, and intend to see it eventually.

Lovemachine, you're CRAZY.
"Anchorman" was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time. The news crew "rumble"? "Afternoon Delight"? "I ate a big red candle"? I laughed so hard I think I cracked a rib. Go see this movie! The Normal Whores Club

I see your point, but I'm basing this on the fact that LM has also hated many films I've loved. Fairly obvious that we have almost opposite tastes.
