This reminds me of this documentary that aired on HBO entiltled Southern Comfort
This transgender female hooked up with a male transvestite. 
Robert Eads is a chain-smokin', gun-totin' Georgia cowboy except for one difference: he was born a female. Robert's also fallen in love with Lola, his almost-female girlfriend. Winner of the 2001 Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary, this film chronicles a touching and unusual love story between these two transgendered people whose romance has taken a bitterly ironic twist: Robert is dying of ovarian cancer.
