I think it's about control, and in my experience I think it's been about manipulation and finding ways to trick the other person into some state of obligation that has no true foundation other than a series of "YOU said..." bullshit.

It's all about a lack of confidence in the person playing the games, and perhaps naivite on the part of the person being engaged in the games.

It's a bunch of crap is what it is.
