Monty Python fans: rank your favourite movies

Monty Python are a bit to humor what Prince is to music. Most fans will most likely say "there's no one better!" Over the years they collected a hardcore fan base, that follow them blindly and will collect all bits & pieces available. Their style is not too easy to get into, and therefore many folks give a shit about them.

But however, please put your fave Python movies in order. My list reads like this:

Classic Python movies:

1. Life Of Brian
2. Meaning Of Life
3. Holy Grail
4. Live at Hollywood Bowl
5. And Now for something completely different
(still a superb film, but what's the point if you can watch the whole Flying Circus TV series biggrin)

Spin offs, solo works & associated films

Fish called Wanda
Clockwise
Brazil
Jabberwocky
Fierce Creatures
12 Monkeys
Time Bandits

I know there's many many more spin-offs, also including some pretty average stuff. But those are the faves, that I can think of at the moment.
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

Great thread!

I'm a die-hard Python fan, so I may add a few things to your list if that's alright.

Python films:

Meaning of Life

Holy Grail

Life of Brian

Live at the Hollywood Bowl

And Now For Something Completely Different (great for those that haven't seen the series, but you're right, see Flying Circus!)

Related films:

A Fish Called Wanda

Fierce Creatures

Adventures of Baron Munchausen (Eric is in it, Gilliam directed)

Splitting Heirs (Eric)

How to Irritate People (John, Michael, and Graham I believe)

All You Need Is Cash (Eric, Rutles related)

Yellowbeard (Graham)

Brazil

Jabberwocky

Time Bandits

12 Monkeys

Clockwise

Romance with a Double Bass (John)

The Missionary (Michael)

There's others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Also check out the reunion special available on the Life of Python 2 DVD set that's out. Great special from the BBC.

and Eric, Michael, John... they all appeared in a bunch of other movies too, but not always in a key position. Can't name them all... hmmm but I'm tempted to count James Bond or Harry Potter as spin-offs too...

Eric's always been the musical genius of the group.

Very subtle song as well. lol

I love the Rutles and the German Python episodes! Nothing scarier than John in Little Red Riding Hood drag.

The Chicken panning is another classic one. Definitely worth checking out. They're available seperately on a couple of the DVD sets for those that are curious. #2 is on Life of Python, and #1 is on Monty Python Live.

We definitely should start a Python music thread. So many great songs that are generally unknown by people only familiar with a few from the films.

As for Romance with a Double Bass-I think I've seen it on DVD at Overstock.com, but that's Region 1 (NTSC).

You might want to check online via Amazon or someone may have it used. Good luck!
