TOLKIEN APPRECIATION THREAD... OK hands up who's read any of J.R.R. Tolkien's work? my fave book of all time is Lord of the Rings  and my all time fave movies, of course, are the LOTR trilogy

Did you know that he wrote a seminal essay on Beowulf that really got people to take that poem seriously?

I have read the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and loved them all!
The best movie was The Return of the King, hands down. I can not fault that movie in any way....the first time I've rated a film a full five stars in years. | |

When I heard about the movies coming, I waited on reading any of the books until I had seen all of the movies. Maybe that was the best thing to do since I've heard from so many people how Peter Jackson was f*cking up the story. I think they're all great, though, books and movies. | |

I don't know if Peter fucked up the movie I think he did the best he could with an amazing but HUGE storyline and very very complex characters and situations - he did a good job I still think  | |

I've got all of the books I'm just starting to read them again He was such an amazing writer. He saught to create a modern English myth and I think he succeeded in creating the most complex and indepth epic ever.
The languages of middle earth are amazing! They follow the basic rules of actual languages.  | |

They follow the basic rules of actual languages. yep, he gathered the two elvish languages Quenya and Sindarin from different languages - he was a master I actually downloaded a course on Quenya to study but it's in storage now so won't start it for a very long time yet | |
