Special Announcement: Episode III Title

starwars.com is pleased to announce that StarWars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the full title of the next Star Wars film, scheduled for release on May 19, 2005.
The Sith are masters of the dark side of the Force and the sworn enemies of the Jedi. They were all but exterminated by the Jedi a thousand years ago, but the evil order continued in secrecy. They operated quietly, behind the scenes, acting in pairs - a Master and an Apprentice - patiently biding their time before they could take over the galaxy. In Episode III, they'll finally exact their revenge on the Jedi.

The title was publicly revealed today in a special presentation to a packed audience of Star Wars fans at Comic-Con International in San Diego, California. "For some time now, the naming of a new Star Wars movie has taken on some special meaning among core fans, who love to take part in guessing games before a title is announced, and then engage in debate once it is," said Steve Sansweet, Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm. "Let the debates begin."

Personally, I think this is the PERFECT title for this film!!! It fits the story, provides a perfect symmetry to the series (this film finishes out the trilogy of the fall of the Jedi, Return Of The Jedi concludes the cycle of their rebirth) and its just damned cool!!!

I saw this on the E! channel yesterday (that scroll at the bottom of the screen). My eyes bugged out and I figured "ah, people will get used to it, just like the other titles.". I guess 'Rise of The Empire' was too obvious a choice. I do think that 'Revenge of The Sith' is in harmony with the final film, 'Return of The Jedi'. Perhaps that was the parallel GL was going for. I logged on to http://www.theforce.net/episode3/ and it's a madhouse over there. (in a good way)

that is beyond cool! thats the best title yet, only rivaled by empire strikes back!!

the only real problem I have with the title and with the Star Wars films in general is that we never get 2 actually C how formiddale the Sith were 1000 years ago. It would have been good 2 show us some flashbacks of the old Jedi?Sith War but instead most of the characters in Starwars have never ebven heard of the Sith. That would be like us not knowing about the Nazi's,Huns or Vikings just because they reigned their terror years ago.

In short, in order 4 me 2 be truly impressed with the Sith (Darth Maul included) i have 2 have some real background on just how much of a bastard they really were...

I think the concept is more along the lines that the Sith have become almost mythic by the time of TPM. The Jedi are well aware of who they are, but the rest of the galaxy has somewhat forgotten. The Jedi eradicated their threat, to the level that the general populace has become complacent.

wouldn't the Sith live on at least in folklore and legend as 'boogeyman' type beings...as U will agree, what is 4gotten by the mind is remembered by the fear

Very true. In the novels, its clear that the Jedi are extremely educated about the Sith, but the general populace seems oblivious. This is a little hard to believe, since 1000 years is no time at in historical terms.

Perhaps Jedi Master, the Jedi used their 'mind control' 'edi mind trick' on a universal scale 2 wipe out the memory of the Sith from the populace... If this is true, then the Jedi are NO BETTER THAN THE SITH!!!!
