ladies of the org, please help -- health concerns

this is gonna be short and sweet, because i am freaking the fuck out over here.....

i was at the hospital all night last night, horrible cramps, backache like i was in labor, and my body generally fucked up !!!

they ran a million tests, came in and did a pelvic exam bawl that shit hurt like you cannot believe. anyway, said i have rather large fibroid cysts on my uterus. told me to get with my doc today, and have a sonogram. i called and made an appointment, the nurse and i were talking about what the outcome could be, and she said what the ER doc did, either drugs, but only if they are small enough to handle them, surgery to remove the cysts, or a hysterectomy bawl

has ANYONE had experience with any of this ????? and can you give any advice either way ???? and does anyone know if its true you loose your sex drive after you have a hysterectomy????? what about the horomones ???? please help, im feeling really really confused sad

also, if there are any men reading this, have you had sex with a woman that has had that done ????? does it feel different at all ????? anything you can offer ????

im sad - scared - and worried sigh

Are you still in pain right now? Did you, or are you on your period right now and does that have anything to do with your level of pain? I ask this because I am going through what sounds to be the very same thing, and I almost went to the emergency room two nights ago for it. The pain has subsided now, but I've made an appointment for the gynecologist today, but I can't get in until Aug. 13. mad

Anyway, the pain I feel is definitely not normal, and I was told it could be a cyst or cysts.

Shit, now I'm freaking out too.

yes, i am in incredible pain - but only right before and during my period...

there are many (sorry guys, cover your ears) clots instead of regular bleeding like it usually is..

and, my blood pressure is off i guess, they did a test while i was there, had me take it laying down, then sitting up, finally standing, something isnt right in there...

I know a few people who have gone through the same thing. Horrible. The thing is, you won't necessarily have to have a hysterectomy...They should do a D&C first, to rule out everything else.

Hope you feel better

Smooches;)

Last year I had a cyst rupture on me... the pain was worse than childbirth, so intense that my body couldn't handle it and I blacked out and then passed out from it, the ambulance came, went in to the hospital, etc... it had already ruptured. I have never felt pain like that in my life.

Try not to work yourself up too much about it, please. Most often times the cysts can be left alone to disolve or rupture on their own or drugs can be used to dissolve them. It really depends on where they're located and how large they are... or so my doctor has told me all of these years.

I get cysts quite frequently, and they usually just dissolve on their own. I will say NOT to have sex until you see the doctor though. Apparently, that's what helped mine to rupture. It never made that happen before, but this last time it did and I don't ever want to feel pain like that again.

You may want to scratch all that I've just said. I just realized that you have yours on your uterus. Mine are always on my ovaries. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Just, try and not worry until you get the results from the sonogram. I'm sure it'll be okay. I'll send little prayers and wishes your way. smile

Yes, please do. I'm going in in another couple of weeks, and by then I'm sure I'll be in incredible pain again lol so at least I'll have something to complain about while I'm at the doctor.

That always happens to me: injure myself or get sick, call the doctor, by the time I get in to see them, everything's fine. mad

Then I just look like a hypochondriac.

Fibroid cysts are very common. My mother suffered these and they were so big her uterus was actually warped. They took a biopsy of them which was relatively painless and everything came back fine. They didn't even go in to take them out. So don't worry about anything just yet. Just make an apt. with your doctor and take it from there.

Good luck.

yes, they are very uncomfortable. when they burst, its like being in labor. I will not get a hysterectomy. So ultrasounds twice a year, a DNC (2-3 times a year), and meds are the only way to control these horrible, painful cysts. I also use a heating pad and make sure to get lots of rest. Fibroid cysts can make your period very painful.

My sister had those too, and she would be screaming her head off in pain. I thought she was just being melodramatic (she usually is about everything).

Hope everything works out ok for ya, and you feel better soon!

My ex had cysts and had them surgically removed....I was even in on the procedure!

She later went on to have an hysterectomy.

From a male perspective nothing changed physically or emotionally...I was just glad she had it done.

She is well and active now.....(it was a struggle to get her to rest afterwards)....and her moods did fluctuate for a while afterwards.

I would say follow the advice of your consultant and those close to you

With all the best of wishes

Nakedpianoplayer,
Earlier I wrote a much longer reply to your post but my computer froze up when I tried to send it, and now I don't have time to rewrite it (I am leaving to go out of town till Wednesday).

I just will quickly say that I had a total hysterectomy 3 years ago due to severe endometriosis. My reproductive system and organs were so messed up from adhesions, cysts, and scarring they had to take everything when I had my 2nd surgery (the hyst). I spent about 5 or 6 years prior to my hysterectomy dealing with constant, debilitating pain and cramps, and constant heavy bleeding and I went through about every test and treatment imaginable. I put off the hyst longer than I should have due to being so afraid of what might happen to me afterwards (there's a LOT of old wives' tales and misinformation out there regarding hysterectomies and it can be very scary, I know).

I truly feel for you and understand how overwhelming and painfrul and frightening this kind of stuff is. Plus, it can be harder to open up to people about why you are feeling bad or sick or worried or whatever because it's a "woman thing" and many people are uncomfortable that. Which is why I wanted to tell you - or anybody who reads this - to please, please orgnote or email me if you'd like to talk or ask me absolutely ANYTHING about my experiences with the various tests/treatments and about the hysterectomy itself and what life is like now afterwards, in terms of sex, sex drive, hormones, etc. I will tell you here and now, though, that the hysterectomy turned out to be the best thing I could've done, it gave me a life again. No more constant pain, no more bleeding, I'm doing well with the hormones they have me on, etc. A hysterectomy isn't easy emotionally - especially if you've never had children, like was my case - and the surgery itself is of course not tons of fun (it's not that horrible, either, though..) but please don't let all the horror stories or anything scare you from doing whatever your doctor recommends.

Fibroids these days can often be handled or treated without hysterectomy, keep that in your mind, too. They can do amazing things these days.

Sorry this got a little long. Please, please do get in touch if there are any questions you'd like to ask me or if you just need a sympathetic ear. I have been in your place and I'd like to help if I in any way can.

I'll be gone till Wednesday but will check in here again then.

Take care and keep your chin up. I will be keeping you in my thoughts.

hug

ps - a good site for info and sharing is http://www.hystersisters.com. It is mainly designed for women preparing for, or that have had, hysterectomies but they have message boards that discuss ALL aspects of various conditions, including fibroids and fibroid treatments and test. Maybe you will find some comfort and information there to make all of this easier and less scary.

Nakedpianoplayer,
**** a lot of helpful information.

hey, thanks so much for that, i may just give you a ring sometime, i sure have a lot of questions about this....

turns out, when i went in for the sonogram today, there arent as many cysts as they thought, at least ones that we can see. he choose to put me on birth control pills and something for pain if i need it, try that for a few months, and then see if its not better. if not, he said, you will be looking at having the big operation sad but, at least hes trying other things first. and its not the operation itself that wigs me out, its the loss of sex drive you hear about... thats what would really get me, i am far to young to give that up !!!!!

im going back to bed, this sure makes your body tired sad

anyway, thanks everyone for your help and sharing, you guys rock !!
