How do you play this game? Do you dress up ? Is it basically Fantasy?

I've never played it, but I've heard that people who do go on killing sprees and go to hell.

i used to play this when i was a wee bairn.

i was a cleric named Omadon. named after the baddie in a kiddie's cartoon called "Flight of Dragons".

but then i discovered girls and beer.

I played it for about a month when I was in seventh grade. It was too geeky, even for me!!! I don't wan't to have to STUDY in order to play a game!

My two cents on the cases of kids "going nuts" playing it: I think that the game isn't at fault, but rather the state of mind these kids were already in. The whole thing is so involved that it lends itself to obsessive personalities. The world that is created for the game is so detailed, if you are having issues with detatchment from reality that you can disappear right into it.

oh man, that game is so sad! D&D players are the bottom feeders of the geek world! these are the guys star trekies beat up!

Another thing about that damned game, it rips off every fantasy novel and myth ever written! Tolkein's estate alone should probably sue them for millions!

i think tolkeins estate DID threaten to sue in the 80s. some of the creatures names were changed, because they were ripped right out of lord of the rings.
