Watchmen: The Movie!!!!

Aronofsky Directing Watchmen at Paramount

Source: The Hollywood Reporter Friday, July 23, 2004

The Hollywood Reporter says Watchmen is moving ahead with some big names at Paramount...

"Watchmen," the seminal DC Comics limited series, has landed at Paramount Pictures. Darren Aronofsky will develop and direct the project, which is being written by David Hayter. Aronofsky's producing partner Eric Watson will produce with Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin. "Watchmen," created by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons, was released as a 12-issue comic book in 1986 and is one of the most critically acclaimed series in the genre. It is a crime-conspiracy story that provided the first realistic look at the behind-the-heroics lives of superhero archetypes.

I don't think its been cast yet. That's the one I'm the most curious about myself.Aronofsky is a good choice for this one, so hopefully Rorshach will be appropriately cast. Who do you see in the role??

Knowing Hollywood they'd probably cast Jim carey as Rorshach kinda hard to see it come to life yanno?...this has been talked about since 1986...

Oh lawd! That would suck! Hopefully, Aranofsky has enough clout to prevent that. Who would be YOUR choice??

I never thought of him, but he TOTALLY would work. Back in the day, I always thought of Eastwood, but he's too old for it now.

I did a thread on this a while back. Now seems like a good time to revisit it.
I don't think the movie can be pulled off and I'd rather they just left it alone. As it is, reading the book is such a visceral experience that actually watching it on screen would be anticlimactic. That said, here are my casting choices :

Walter--William Macy or Gary Sinise
Adrian--Jude Law
Eddie --Robert Deniro
Dan--Liam Neeson
Laurie-- a young Sean Young
Moloch--John Hurt
Hollis--Paul Newman
Jon--unknown

I tend to agree, but I guess a film is inevitable. Still, if it is to be made into a film, I feel better having Aranofsky at the helm than a whole lot of other directors. There's no way that the scope of the whole thing can be captured, as it would have to be an HBO mini-series or something (which would be preferable, really).

This movie seems like it would be extremely difficult to pull off....I mean the juggling quality of the book with the typical hollywood B.S that they love to add....And is it going to be as dark and disturbing? Granted I am mixed about all these comic movies that have and will come out but I have yet to see one (maybe the exception of the first Batman) That is Dark and gritty like the comics....Even Spiderman has grit to it but by watching the movie you wouldn't know it.....New York looks like Disney land compared to what it should look like.

I personally want Marvel to stop whoring themselves to hollywood like they have been doing....They need to work on each script and the casting like they give a fuck instead of this "Oh we will get 1 major star to play this character.....and write a script based around 10 of this characters best stories and PG the fuck outta it and make $$$$" Instead the movie does less than expected or tanks and Marvel starts bringing out the most obscure characters they have cause they want to duplicate Blade's success.....Whores.....buncha whores.....
