The Best Place To Take A Vacation In The World Is...

According to Travel & Leisure magazine’s poll, Sydney is the best place to take a vacation...and dad gummit, I can vouch for that!!! biggrin nod
(I can vouch for Rome being #2 as well...)

“Where in the world should you go on vacation? Listen to sophisticated, passionate travelers who overwhelmingly say Sydney, Australia..
Want to stay in the United States? Then head to New York City.”

That's the word from Travel + Leisure magazine's ninth annual poll of the best places to visit in the world. Based on 425,105 evaluations,
this survey is the most comprehensive one the magazine has ever compiled.

Top 10 best vacation cities worldwide:

    1. Sydney
    2. Rome
    3. Florence, Italy
    4. Bangkok
    5. Cape Town
    6. New York
    7. Oaxaca, Mexico
    8. Istanbul
    9. San Francisco
    10. Venice

Top 10 best vacation cities in the United States and Canada:

    1. New York
    2. San Francisco
    3. Quebec City
    4. Charleston, South Carolina
    5. Santa Fe
    6. Vancouver
    7. Chicago
    8. New Orleans
    9. Victoria
    10. Montreal

I’m still trying to figure out how Instabul beat out both San Francisco AND Venice... hmmm Might have to visit there to see for myself. thumbs up!...and um, anyone here from Charleston, South Carolina??...If so, fill us (ok, me) in on what’s so stinkin’ great about that place??...It beat out Los Angeles, fer cryin’ out loud!! (well....ok, I guess that’s to be expected... wink )

Do you agree with the lists??

For living in, yeah...but for visiting for a few days, San Francisco is a beautiful, romantic, scenic vacation spot. And there's way too much on the outskirts of San Francisco that is even more beautiful...

I don't care if John Cusack were on the other end of that flight.

It's funny that Asia isn't very well represented in this list. I would have definitely placed Nagoya or Kyoto or Nara high up there.

btw, all I know about Charleston, SC is that Darius (from Hootie and the Blowfish) lives there

Are you kidding me??...You can dismiss the extraordinary world history that resides in Rome THAT easily??...Chalk up the Vatican as just another big church??...Go in and see the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel and say "Nice painting"??...See the Colosium standing in majestic glory in the stinkin' middle of all that modernism, walk inside it, and just yawn??...Holy shmokes, woman...lol...I don't care if there are a million McDonalds and Starbucks surrounding all that amazing depth of human existence and artistry...Rome is simply stunning to visit.

I don't know, maybe I just think that the atmosphere of a place is equally as important as its landmarks. I loved the Sistine Chapel and Vatican, don't get me wrong, but the overall feeling of the city rubbed me the wrong way. And we spent a few days there. Everyone should see Rome, but I wouldn't choose to go back for longer than a day - just enough time to see the Sistine Chapel/Vatican. There are nicer, less touristy places in Italy to visit... not to mention cheaper...

New york was cool for the first time.Especially all the old mafia sites etc...
Mexico's fun if your gonna get drunk, beach or fish.
San Francisco has some cool things to see.Alcatraz is a must.
Okinawa was just great lol.
Kuwait was a shithole.
But I'll still say Colorado and Montana are my favorites.

Understand...at the same time, though, I think all that history created the atmosphere that I adored...so... shrug
