if you watched Angel, what did you think....

...of that bit of dialogue between Spike and Ilyria in the second-to-last episode?

I can't remember it exactly, but Ilyria said something to the effect of Angel not being concerned for his intimates -his friends.

And Spike replied, "Hey! Angel and I have *never* been intimate. Well, except for that one time..."

So what did you think? Purposeful gay subtext (Angel/Spike? horny) Or was it just Spike being a smartass? If it was the first, I wonder why more hadn't been written into AtS or BtVS about it. Maybe subtext was just supposed to stay subtext....

You never really knew with either series though. There really was a LOT of gay subtext -some of it subtle, some blatant -but Tara and Willow aside, the writer's never really went anywhere with it. They obviously wrote it into the show on purpose, but I wonder why it was never extended. And most of it wasn't meant to be funny (Xander moments aside. LOL.) so it's not like it was played for humour.

I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or not that it was never explored more, but I am confused.

BTW, thanks for posting something at least. Nice to know my thread's a real popular one. razz

I am grateful. The Willow connection should not be brushed aside. I was dealt with in a very laid back, non threatening way.

And innuendo's rule, esp when not many get the joke, hehehe.

If I'm not mistaken, Spike sired Angel (i.e., turned him into a vampire). I believe that's the extent of their intimate moments...

Not really, no. That *was* the original story, but then Joss fucked it up in "Fool for Love" and made Drusilla Spike's sire instead. Then he tried to cover his ass after the fans (mostly the slash fans) bitched about the change by saying "Your sire's sire is still your sire."

Dude couldn't even admit the writer's fucked up the continuity and NO ONE caught it until the episode had been aired.
