I like this new Blockbuster set up, cuz I've been watching more movies for a set price. I've seen movies that I'd normally skip over, simply due to cost... so it's pretty cool!

And I agree about "House Of Sand And Fog" thumbs up!

I have become a Netflix whore in the past few months. I love not having to leave the house to get my movies.

Last night I watched: Spirited Away. It was a very smart cartoon. I'll admit I'm a Disney fan. Well, I was until the recent years of schlocka. Still, this reminded me how good animated films can be. It's so nice to not have animals singing songs every 10 minutes smile I recommend this film to those who haven't seen it yet.

VERY! Saw it in theaters and it was an EXTREMELY disturbing--yet thought-provoking--film.

Goodness, doesn't she, though??... nod...And her legs deserved co-star billing... wink (not that you'd notice, I know..lol)

When Sweeny was out here, I put the movie in for her to watch while I did some design work on my computer...she at first said "Isn't this that movie about people wanting to buy a house??", and said it in this "gawd, how boring" tone of voice...lol. By the time the movie was almost over, I came out to the kitchen to get something to drink, and saw her standing up in front of the T.V., almost chewing on her fingernails... lol

I'm not usually a fan of Jennifer Connelly, but she was very good in this. The cast as a whole actually was very good, particularly Shohreh Aghdashloo. Hers was my favorite supporting performance of last year. So subtle, moving and heartbreaking, and it angers me that Sneezy-Face Zellweger won for her sore-thumb performance in Cold Mountain (I liked the movie, thought she was out of place in it). Some day, I'll stop letting the Oscars bug me! lol

all the awards in the world for that fierce and amazing
performance

I've been on a DVD rental tear lately...it's the whole Blockbuster "rent all the movies you want for only $24.99 a month" thing, I guess... neutral

Anyhoo...in case some of you are either looking for something worthwhile to rent or something to avoid at any costs...here are my suggestions:

Capturing The Friedmans... *** 1/2 (out of 4)
Great documentary...very well done.

Touching The Void... ***
Another very good documentary...extraordinary what these two mountain climbers went thru. nod

Gangs Of New York... **
Found myself a bit too bored too often...Daniel Day-Lewis almost made it worthwhile...almost.

Winged Migration... *** 1/2
There are some simply stunning scenes and visuals in this documentary...just amazing.

City Of God... ****
Great, great movie...ridiculously watchable.

Monster... ***
Ms. Theron did a superb job...

Mona Lisa Smile... ** 1/2
Eh...decent enough, though predictable enough as well. The ending was a bit too hokey, tho...

Miracle... ***
I'm not a sports nut by any stretch, and I can't stand hockey..lol...but this was a good watch (and Kurt Russell was great!)

Mystic River... ***
Should have been devastating, instead of merely very good...and Sean Penn deserved that Oscar.

House Of Sand And Fog... ***1/2
Great acting, still riviting even though I'd read the book.

Shattered Glass... ****
Amazing, amazing movie...and based on a true story.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre... * 1/2
Ok, so I was bored senseless...sue me.

Anyone wanna add some choices of their own??...
The Station Agent is wonderful!!! rent it!

Thank you Sweenster... smile

It's a movie by David Mamet (cool points immediately) about a CIA guy who recovers the president's daughter who has been abducted by bad guys, and all the silly hijinks that occurs along the way.

I thought it would suck but it's really good. nod

As for Pill and I (yes we watch movies on the phone, it adds a bit of normalcy to an unusual relationship) it's Gothika tonight!

I heard it sucked but I still want to see it anyway. smile
