Favorite Comic Book Artists

A few of my fav's (and that have had a major impact on the industry):

NEAL ADAMS--If I had to choose just one, it'd be Neal.IHis heroes looked like the Gods they were meant to represent.
STEVE DITKO---here's a cat who applied Aristotle's principals to his craft.'nuff said.
BERNI WRIGHTSON--his early stuff fromthe 70's holds an emotional resonance that just stays with you.
FRANK MILLER--early stuff up to DKR.Sin City stuff too.But he lost it with 300 and DKSA sad
MARSHALL ROGERS--draws the definitive Batman
MIKE ZECK--there's almost a Zen simplicity to his work--very few lines but such range of emotion--- the dude is highly underrated
DAVE GIBBONS--his work on Watchmen is undisputed.
PAUL GULACY--used Bruce Lee pics for reference and made it work.
GIL KANE---every bit as innovative as Kirby and Adams---and was responsible for a major new direction and how the artform was looked upon.Gorgeous, breathtaking stuff.
DAVID MAZZUCHELLI--his work is so cinematic ,that u actually come out feeling you've been watching a movie.Outstanding.

Who are your favs?

Yeah that's when sienkiewicz really came into his own as an artist.back when he was doing Moon Knight he was just an Adams clone.

Neal's late sixties/early seventies stuff is just amazing. drool

Ditko is a groundbreaking artist, without whom there would have been no Frank Miller. nod

As for Frank, I think he's a great artistst, but I'm not into his non-Marvel work. I tried Sin City, but that kinda story just ain't my scene. neutral

Paul's Master Of Kung Fu is classic. He's still doing good stuff, currently on Catwoman. His art style seems to have stagnated, but it hasn't devolved like, say John Byrne's. biggrin

David did some AWESOME art on Daredevil and Batman: Year One. His men are sexy. drooling

Besides them, I love:

Barry Windsor-Smith : His late eighties/early nineties Marvel, Valiant and Image stuff was spectacular. drool

Jim Steranko : Like Neal Adams, an artist doing some groundbreaking, innovative stuff in the late sixties. biggrin

Jack Kirby : Like Steve Ditko, BUT very dependant on who's inking. biggrin

Jim Starlin : His seventies stuff is just amazing. drool

John Byrne : His seventies and eighties stuff is just uncanny! drool

George Pérez : He still has what it takes. drool

Phil Jimenez : A really good artist. drool

Paul Smith : He did some inspired work in the eighties. nod

Steve Epting, Lee Weeks and John Romita, Jr. Three guys who are just really good at their craft. drool

Jim Lee : He slacked off a bit in the late nineties, but have you seen his Superman? love drooling

Cynthia Martin Her mid-late eighties stuff at Marvel and DC... drool

Bill Sienkiewicz His Moon Knight and New Mutants stuff... drooling

I probably forgot someone... confuse

Oh, right...

Alan Davis : drooling

Carlos Pacheco and Bryan Hitch : I just LOVE that slick look these two otherwise different artist have in common. Their men are sexy. drool

Leinil Francis Yu : Although I think he slacked a bit on Superman: Birthright nod

Keith Giffen : His late seventies AND early ninities stuff was very good, even though vastly different. biggrin

LOL!!yeah there's alwys some forgotten.

I've got a lot of respect for Kirby --he's one of the founding father,but...I've never really dug his art (yeah I know folks are gonna lose their mind)

Byrne's stuff has always been hit or miss for me.Loved his stint on the HULK though.

George Perez is cool, but his stuff was a little too bland for me.

Now Jose Luis Garcia Lopez--that's someone i forgot to mention. cool

He came into his own under Miller. As did Klaus Janson (sp?). Mazzuchelli was pretty humdrum until then, but yeah he got real good.

Sienkiwicz was great in Elektra and The New Mutants when he had that gig.

What about John Totleben?

Re: Mazzuchelli--agree with uo a 110%.Miller definitly inspired him to a new plateau.

I was mainly thinking of his work on SwampThing. That one with the blue planet, and the one where he was raped by the planet. I think they were both him.
