this wasn't aimed at anybody in particular - more of a general thought. i work with a lot of folks who outwardly don't appear to be classy in the traditional sense, but have lots of dignity. i'm not sure how that translates to online interactions, though. just thought it was interesting to think about and get other people's input on.

I absolutely reek of both, my dear....

And to answer your question...lol...I always felt as if class referred to how someone carries themselves...and dignity referred to how one treated others. Kinda. Sorta.

You can have dignaty with out class. I too work with a wide variety of people and i find that the people "with out so called class" are often more dignified and have more self respect than other people who have a better outward appearance
class i think is more of a first opinion u have of some1 the first times u meet them, there language and body language which can all be attained by education dignaty is entirly different and has more to do in how and where the person see's them selves within society

Dignity is bearing characteristics which command respect and therefore this does not necessarily have to be achieved by class. I really do care how I come across to others and therefore I would prefer to come across as dignified rather than outwardly classy.

I know what u mean i don't i ever come a think i come across as classy but in my reaction to others and the way i behave i think i am very dignified. I don't particulary care what others think though..... i just treat others how i would want to be treated, if they have a problem with me i don't give a damn!

One thing is for sure... They are both nouns.
I always viewed dignity as more of an esteem thing, and class as elegance. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

I think you can be both and at the same time appear that you are neither. Judge not a book by it's cover. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

This just reminds me of a Jerry Springer episode I saw once. You know when at the end they take questions from the audience, well this one person in the crowd directed a comment toward one of the women on the show. Something about how she had no class or something like that. Anyway, the woman (who was the epitome of a Jerry Springer guest) stands up and screams back, " I GOT CLASS! I got PLENTY of class! I got 4 fuckin' kids! I take CARE of my kids!..... " etc.
Now THAT's a classy person, IMO. So anyway, that's always what I think of when I hear that word from now on. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I agree they are both about respect...respect for yourself (dignity) and respect for others (class) they go hand in hand In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |
