Whats your favorite danceclub/disco and why?

Does anyone here still go out to clubs on the weekends? wink

I like the ones in Europe because they stay open until 5am on weekends.
My favorite here in Tel Aviv is the G- SPOT owned by a local hero DJ/prince fan

Anyone have pics of Glam Slam South Beach ?

The End was soooo cool... GAY at the Astoria was camp as hell but a great time... nights at infinity are nice, and I liked Madame Jojos (jazz/blues/funk/etc!). I enjoyed Cafe de Paris as well... hmm... sound was a bit shit, and expensive... Zoo bar was crowded and sleazy... CC club was EMPTY and boring... we tried to get into Heaven once but they said "members only" (WHAT THE FUCK!) but the end of the year Prince party was off the hook!

I'll pass your message onto Gareth, senik!

agree about cafe de paris - crazy expensive. at least their attitude's improved a bit. not that long ago you couldn't get in unless you were a celeb or someone else with connections.

That's what I've been hearing. When I was telling people I had gotten in for free (wearing blue jeans, nonetheless!) they were in disbelief. I think it still has that lingering stigma attached to it...

Here in Melbourne, the best clubs by far are mixed clubs, with my fav's being Zos, Market, Viper, The Exchange & Yum Yum. Some of the raves like God's Kitchen, Winter Dayz & Run are spectacular.

First Avenue USED to be my favorite danceclub sigh but there dance nights have been shit for a few years now

Beyond that, my fave club experiences have been in the UK....Heaven, "GAY" (cheese ball but fun), Pop something night in London and Poptastic in Manchester.

Actually there were few clubs in london/manchester that I didn't have a great time at.

I had a blast at Heaven too and Poptastic in Manchester was sooooo fun!! (PS- It was PopStarz in London that we went to.)

I liked Twilo when I was in New York several years ago.

And First Ave used to be fun back in the day. It's so sad, really. sad

Members only? Do such nightclubs exist in London? And if they do, why would they not offer to sell someone a membership in lieu of turning them away?

It sounds to me like a "soft rejection." If a club runs a selective door, the doorman may use excuses such as "Sorry, it's a private party tonight" in order to turn people away without offending them.

I think Heaven was member's only when I went there in 2001. I seem to remember signing up for membership while in line to get in. I also did that with Club Cherry in LA and Backstreet in Atlanta. Its usually not a big deal. shrug

I used to be anti-club. I very much preferred the underground rave scene. But then an evil man named Bart Peterson got himself elected Mayor of Indianapolis, and he killed our local scene. mad (Ironically, he was a Democrat. The previous Mayor, a Republican, left us alone.)

So, we had to move the music into clubs. For the most part, I didn't have a "favorite club," as I was more interested in the music than the space. But with that said, I frequented the following clubs, which I'll list in alphabetical order:

  • Eden (Now closed. The space was a neat old multi-level building.)
  • Fusion (It was located near my apartment, and it has a nice outdoor patio area.)
  • GOBO (Now closed. I liked it because it was within walking distance of my apartment. Also, the owner is a friend and client of mine. And it operated as a restaurant during the day--you could get a nice lunch for a very reasonable price.)
  • Vapour Lounge (The location is horrible--it's located in a suburban-style neighborhood full of strip malls, grocery stores, etc. But, the space itself is beautiful. It has features such as plasma video displays and a bar that has an ice top to keep your drink cold. Also, they do valet parking, and I was amused that they always parked my relatively inexpensive Miata out front with the Ferraris, Porsches, Corvettes, etc. to attract customers)

I haven't been to a club since moving to Seattle, but I plan to get in touch with an acquaintance of mine whom I knew from my Indianapolis club days and now lives here. He supposedly knows the local places to go.

It might have something to do with liquor laws that treat private clubs differently than public clubs. As for why Heaven didn't offer to sell a membership, maybe they were at or near capacity that night?

Oh, the bouncer was just full of shit. It was ridiculous and we were so pissed. They said we weren't "regulars."

The best club I've ever been to was a little club called "Nest" in Cairns, Far North Queensland...it was a club that played strictly only R & B and hip hop - it was SO cool!!! good music, good company...couldn't ask for better wink

The Leadmill in Sheffield, UK is a great club. I must be honest though, these days I just prefer to go to a late night bar and just have a drink and a chat. I hate having to shout and be shouted at over the music in clubs and waiting about 10mins to get served for an expensive drink!
