I understand progression but lawd! They are completely forgetting about powers, and personality all together....
But the last couple of issues of Uncanny X-Men by Chris Claremont and Alan Davis have been very good indeed. Man, I hope you are being sarcastic! That is, in my opinion, a new low for the X-books! Claremont has lost it! He should have retired about 15 years ago (along with John Byrne, who also used to be great, but now sucks like a hoover) Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. Sinister said: And they are supposed to be in talks to do a Powerman/Ironfist movie or just Iron Fist....hmmm Actually, both characters have seperate films in pre-production. Cage is to be directed by John Singleton, and Ving Rhames is in talks to star (don't know if he fits or not. I'm still puzzling that one out). Iron Fist is in pre-production hell, but Ray Park is signed to play Danny Rand. Secret Wars was utter shit! That almost did comic books in for me! Thank God for Miller, Moore, Owsley etc. But you should check out Brian Michael Bendis's current "Secret War" mini-series. It has absolutely nothing to do with the 80s series, other than the title. Nick Fury recruits a group of heros to go undercover in Lateveria, when he notices a connection between all of Marvel's Tech villians. Certain forces within the government seem to be involved, so Fury organizes an unauthorised mission, employing the heros, since they aren't under S.H.I.E.L.D jurisdiction. Great stuff! JediMaster said: The only one worth reading right now, in my opinion, is Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. Joss is definitely old-school, and he gets the characters.
Now you are being sarcastic, right?! Actually, having read just two issues, it's probably too early to judge. But that's part of the problem. Usually two issues would be enough to indicate whether you like what is going on, but these days, you need at least four to six issues to even figure out what the story is and that makes me mad ! I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth when a comic is read in 5 minutes. I need intellectual stimulation and so far, Astonishing X-Men hasn't delivered. The first two issues worth of story could easily have been told in half the amount of space. Also, starting out with referencing events from Claremont's classic issues is scoring cheap points. That's also how Whedon started out Alien Resurrection - Ripley quoting Newt from Aliens - and we all know just how good Alien Resurrection turned out! But ... I'll read the first story arc before making my final judgment on whether to keep buying it or to drop it. Well, visually it was quite stunning. But the characters were awful - who cared whether they lived or died? So one couldn't get emotionally involved like in the past movies. (In Alien3, one at least cared about Ripley. ) I've read Joss Whedon's script and it was worse than the movie with even more of those awful Betty crew members. And don't get me started on the Alien queen switching from laying eggs to giving birth. I mean, either she inherited a human reproduction system, or she didn't. Having it both ways is stretching believability too far. I liked the new take on the old getting-sucked-out-in-space ending, though. That was quite gross. (In Josh Whedon's awful script, they actually landed on Earth and the Newborn was killed quite anti-climatically by simply getting run over by a harvester! ) [This message was edited Mon Jul 12 12:25:45 2004 by scififilmnerd] FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!
