Will Shows Brando Not Broke
By Lia Haberman

The mystery surrounding reclusive screen legend Marlon Brando continues even in death.

Recent reports suggested the Godfather died virtually penniless, but, according to his will filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Thursday, Brando left an estate valued at approximately $21.6 million.

It seems par for the course for the intensely private thesp, who was cremated and memorialized in a private ceremony Monday attended only by family members.

"He was such a private man that it was easy to make comments about him, because everyone knew he would never set the record straight," Brando's attorney David Seeley told USA Today.

Brando died July 1 in Los Angeles of lung failure. He was 80.

The bulk of the show-biz icon's assets consist of his home on Mulholland Drive in Beverly Hills, valued at up to $10 million, and his Tetiaroa resort, a string of 11 tiny islands in Tahiti.

Brando bought the Tahitian property in the 1960s for about $250,000 to develop as a resort and income-generating farm.

The two-time Oscar winner also collected paintings, sketches and rare scripts over the years.

Attorneys filed a petition for probate Thursday when the will arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court; that allows the court to distribute Brando's holdings.

Results of the probate will provide a public peek into Brando's estate, but there has been no word on how long the process might take.

Brando's 10 surviving children from four different women are the will's beneficiaries. The offspring have reportedly retained a slew of lawyers to ensure they each get their fair share.

Overseeing the will's execution will be friend and producer Mike Medavoy, business manager Larry Dressler and friend Arva Douglas.

Medavoy was named executor just weeks before Brando's death, according to Celebrity Justice. Brando purportedly changed his will and switched executors less than two weeks before his demise to ensure his kids benefited from the estate.

Alice Marshak, who was replaced as executor, denied any allegations that greed played a role in her dismissal. "About five years ago, when Marlon was having some cash-flow problems, I sold my house and gave him the proceeds."

Meanwhile, Celebrity Justice claims to have unearthed a long-lost daughter of Brando's, Lisa Worme. She's reportedly the product of an illicit union between the movie star and Hogan's Heroes actress Cynthia Lynn, who starred with Brando in 1964's Bedtime Story.

Worme, who was never acknowledged by her famous father, said her stepsiblings have nothing to fear. "I don't want any money at all," Lisa insisted. "If he left it to me out of his own free will, then I may accept it, but would I go and get a lawyer and attack their estate and do all that? No."

Not bad for a man who claims to have slept with over 1,000 women though.
