A Story of How Stupid I Can Actually Be So... I run down to the party store about an hour ago to get a tea and while I'm there this guy yells at me. So, I drive over to where he is... pushing his truck into the middle of the street. He comes to my car and says that he ran out of gas and that he quickly ran down to the store and left his eight year old son at home... I offer to take his gas can that he said he had, and his money and go down to the gas station and bring the gas back to him. I think he's drunk because of his very, very poor speech and his wobbly legs and odd arm gestures.
Anyway... he says to hang on a minute while he finishes moving his truck. I'm thinking he's trying to get it to the side of the road. Nope... he's pushing it into the street. So... I get out (stupid of me) and ask him why he's doing that. He says that he is pushing it out of the way. I'm like... "WTF?!" and tell him that we need to move it to the side of the road to get it out of the way... he asks me what I think he's doing. Yikes. Anyway... so, I'm thinking of the small child he has at home... who knows if there really is one or not. So... Finally, I convince him to move the truck to the side of the road... and he wants me to hop in it and steer the thing... after about ten minutes of this guy trying to push the thing, we get it over far enough. He's wanting to ride to the gas station with me. I tell him no... that I will go and come back... he says he's offended by this... I'm nervous thinking there is an eight year old at his house all alone wondering where his daddy is... drunk or not. So... stupid me agrees to let him ride to the gas station with me. While in the car he tells me that he's on Xanax and Valium among other things and is not coherent hardly at all. I'm just wanting to get the gas and get him back so I can get home. Then he tells me that this is the second time this has happened to him today, that an hour ago he ran out of gas. WTF?! On the way back to his truck, he tells me how pretty I am and would I like to stop over after we gas his truck up. I'm like, Noooo... I have kids at home myself and have to get back to them. He then offers me a joint or some pills or whatever for my trouble. I tell him... fine, fine, fine... that I'll follow him to his house because he wouldn't shut up about it and get out of my car... We get back and gas his truck up and I start to follow him (not to go to his house, but because we live off of the same street) and then I feel like shit. He is driving on the WRONG side of the road! I followed him for about two miles and then turned off onto a side street so that he didn't know what street I lived off of, in case he happened to see where I pulled off at. But, OH MY GOD! He would drive on the wrong side, speeding, then, when cars started heading his way he'd jerk over into the correct lane and be all zig-zaggy and then weave back over heading towards the other car. I feel like total dogshit because I basically got a drugged up person back and the road, and who knows if the guy made it home or not without hitting someone. I have never, ever, in all of my 32 years, seen ANYONE drive like this. I've seen people swerve or jerk or whatever, but not like the car is just going with no one in the drivers seat. That's exactly what it looked like... like all of a sudden the driver died at the wheel and the vehicle wandered off on its own... then suddenly the driver came to and jerked back over. I pray to God that there is no kid at home and I pray that he did not hurt anyone on the way home. Very, very, very stupid of me to not only offer to help after I see his condition (if he would have not mentioned the kid I wouldn't have helped), but even more stupid of me to allow him in my car (I'm not that stupid of a person, but he didn't seem like he would hurt/kill me... I know, I know, I know... my mom already chewed my ass out over that)... but, fuck... I really put a dangerous person out on the road. I didn't know what the hell to do.

Yeah... helping someone is one thing... putting a damned drugged up and completely out of his mind guy out on the road is quite another... I didn't feel bad until I saw how he was driving... I did feel stupid the entire time though... thinking that it was dark, I have a drugged up guy, that I don't know, riding with me in my car... who could easily kill me... It's not one of the smarter things I've ever done.

I guess my first thought after I saw his condition would be to get a license plate # and call it in. It sounds like there are so many possibilities of something going wrong because this guy was out on the streets.
I am glad you're okay, though.

I am glad you're okay, though. That's what a smart person would have done. Why the name change?

Azure sometimes it's very easy to misjudge people characters - especially when you don't really know them...it was a very kind thing for you to do and you thought you were helping
don't beat yourself up about it

wow - i'm glad you're ok!
you may still want to talk to the police - chances are they already know about him, and can do something to help him and the innocent drivers and pedestrians in your area!
