Well, I wouldn't put it past Mr Raimi. I know a whole lot of folks thought that Peter's neighbor was Gwen Stacy, but I don't think that was the intention at all. I just love that a movie like this can have so many cool little "Easter Eggs" in it! X2 had a whole lot as well, and I totally dug that!

Did Stan Lee make an appearance during the film like in all the other Marvel films? I thought I saw him at one point but wasn't sure since it was so fast-paced at that particular time.

No. The son of Peter's boss, Jameson, goes into space and gets "infected" with a moonstone, alright, but it doesn't turn him into Venom. It turns him into Man-Wolf. At least that's how it happened in the comics. biggrin

I'm pretty sure the animated Spiderman tv series which was on ABC and is now on ABC Family showed it as Jameson becoming Venom, not Man-Wolf. I've gotta go with the comics then when it comes to canon, not tv shows. confused

I haven't seen the cartoons. razz

Anyways, in the comics Venom is the parasitic black costume that Spider-Man picked up during Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars. When Spider-Man dumps it, it bonds with the criminal Eddie Brock. biggrin

In the animated series, Jameson finds the symbiote in space and brings it back to earth. It escapes from its containment, causing Jameson's shuttle to crash. After Spidey rescues the astronauts, he becomes host to the symbiote. The rest of the story pretty much plays out like the comic story, with the symbiote trying to take over Peter's mind. After he gets rid of it, it finds Eddie Brock, who becomes Venom. Eddie Brock is Venom in the original comic, the animated series and the Ultimate Universe.

On a side note, Eddie Brock is mentioned at the Daily Bugle office by Robbie in the first Spider-Man film.

When is Venom going to show up? Some people were saying that Harry was going to become him in the movies, but I don't think they'd be that unfaithful to the comics.

It won't happen while Sam Raimi is directing the films. He's said he hates the character of Venom, and wants to do the classic Spidey villians instead. Harry will be taking up the mantle of the Goblin from his father. He won't be Venom.

Good! I'm glad to hear that (about Harry not becoming Venom) you know how the rumor mill gets started.
Also, I can't wait for X-Men III biggrin Although, I wasn't too happy about the whole Jean Grey thing. It wasn't like the comic. How are they going to explain the Phoenix Force thing?

Well, it is somewhat like it was in the comic. See, in the more recent issues, Jean started manifesting the Phoenix force, even though she was (supposedly) a seperate entity. There is now sufficient doubt as to whether or not that is actually the case. She is the Phoenix, after all, and a Phoenix continually dies and is reborn.

Now, you have to realize that they are going more for the spirit of the comic, rather than trying to cram 40 years of continuity into a two hour film. So, in the original comic, the first time Jean appeared as the Phoenix was when she saved the X-Men in the shuttle as it crashed into the ocean. She "died", only to be reborn as the Phoenix. Its not so dissimilar from the way "X2" ended, when you think about it. She was starting to manifest the Phoenix Force throughout the film, and at the end she used these abilities to save the X-Men. The last shot of the film is a Phoenix shape moving under the water. She will return as the Phoenix in the next film, and we may just see the Dark Phoenix saga played out!!!!

Man-Wolf is a horrible name for a villian. Sounds like a nickname you'd give to a hairy friend. I mean c'mon man, I can think of a better name than that. Something that's half MAN, half ANIMAL, but something no one would expect. Yeah, something like, uh, MANIMAL!!! Yeah!! That's the ticket!! That's where I'm comin' from! And don't even try to steal it either, you hosers!! cool

Amen.I can't think of a more one dimensional ,one note character then Venom.Nothing would be more boring then to see a bunch of liquid CGI dominating the screen.
The thing I love about Spider-Man 2 is that it's really for the folks that grew up on the Ditko/Romita Sr./Gil Kane Spidey. Those stories and characters are the heart of the spidey mythos. All this new stuff is for the birds.
Now...if they get Sandman for the next one--I'll be happy.

Yeah...you're right about the simliarities. I did think of those things. I guess I was focusing on the details mostly.
The whole Dark Phoenix thing would be interesting...but, I don't wanna see her go bad...unless they can do it all in one film. I'd hate to see Jean being all evil and then have to wait for her to go good again!

Apparently, they're toying with the idea of filming X3 and X4 at the same time, and releasing them 6 months to a year apart. This leads me to believe that the story is going to be fairly epic in scope (Like The Dark Phoenix Saga???)
