Aging and Your Memory

Any one else find that as they become older their memory goes?

For the past couple of years my memory has become pretty bad... more recently, it's gotten so bad that I can't remember instances that took place a day or two ago. My short term memory is pretty much shot.

It's actually very scary.

Good lord, woman. Go see a doctor!

You're not so old you should be having memory loss problems!

Seriously? I just chalked it up to getting older and thinking it's bound to go. But, it has become pretty bad. It used to be I'd remember everything... the smallest of things, days, times, who said what and where it all took place... now... hell, I really cannot remember much... example... something like running errands. The next day, I can't recall which order I went in while running them, I remember running the errands, just not where I went first and all that there...

sad

See a doctor. I think that's a little young for serious memory loss.

Well... I guess I will. I just really thought it was normal and that as the years go by so did that.

I wonder if having a thyroid problem would mess up the memory at all? I'm long overdue for my uptake and scan... (no insurance, too expensive)... and so maybe I should go and get that done, I need to anyway. Of my health problems, that's the only one that I could think of that might harm the memory.

It is true that short term memory decreases with age, and it will hit different persons at different times even though 33 is a bit early.

The unfortunate thing about short term memory loss is that short term memory - also known as working memory - is where comprehension and learning takes place which is why not only your memory of recent events suffer, but also your ability to learn new skills.

And this concludes today's lecture geek

And that makes complete sense because not too long ago I was being taught something rather simple and yet I'd forget the steps when I'd come back to do it myself.

It's all rather scary to me... quite scary in fact. From someone who used to remember everything to not being able to... I don't like it.

It could also explain any fatigue you may be experiencing. It's best to check though, it may not be, but I think that with your age it could be.
