Rejoice Geeks! Spider-Man 2 Rocks!!!

After months of anticipation, I finally got to behold the spectacle that is Spider-Man 2. This film is the rare exception in Hollywood: a sequel that is just as good, if not better, than the original. The film is plenty accessible to those who've never read the comic, yet it holds plenty of treasures for the longtime fans as well. I'll keep this as spoiler-free as possible

The themes of the previous film (and of the comic series) are further explored here, and Peter Parker is found to be struggling with his responsibilities as Spider-Man. Peter's conflict comes from his drive to protect those he loves from his enemies (which forces him to keep them at arm's length), and his desire for a normal life. This is at the heart of the Spider-Man saga, and it is brilliantly developed here. Sam Raimi proves that he understands the mythos of the comic, and he effortlessly tranfers them to the Big Screen.

All the principles return for this film, topping their performances in the previous film. Tobey McGuire is brilliant as the conflicted hero, Peter's inner struggle is etched on every line on his face. Kirsten Dunst's portrayal of lady-love Mary Jane Watson is more fully fleshed out than last time. The supporting cast all put in dead-on turns, most especially JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.

New to the cast is the magnificent Alfred Molina as Doctor Otto Octavius, AKA Doctor Octopus. Unlike most comic based films, Doc Ock is a multi-layered villian. Molina isn't out to steal the show and upstage the hero. Instead, he protrays him as a real human being. Ock has noble intentions, they just go awry. Refreshing in a day and age where most comic films cram multiple villians into each movie, and they all chew the scenery into oblivion.

The special effects have improved dramatically since the first film. The CGI is much more realistic, and the fight sequences are quite breathtaking.

Complaints? One or two. In the comic, Spidey wise-cracks to shake his enemies confidence. Much like the first film, this is down-played here. Spidey's smart-ass side needs to become more prevelant. Also, there are one or two plot points that could have been a bit more fleshed-out.
Still, these are minor in a film that is so well done.

That is really all I can say without giving away major story elements.

I work for Sony and we made this film mr.green

The company threw a huge BBQ on the lot yesterday to celebrate woot! Saw a 15 minute preview in a copmany meeting couple months ago (the subway train scene is what we saw) and it was amazing. The effects they use to bring Dr. Oc to life are killer. Those legs/arms, they look real.

Can't wait to see the whole thing.

Well, Lucas has confirmed that the title has been leaked to the internet, but that it is definitely NOT "Birth Of The Empire". When asked if it was "Revenge Of The Sith", he just smiled coyly. Personally, I hope that is the title, since it just sounds so cool (plus, it hearkens back to the "Revenge Of The Jedi" days!)

The Star Wars series rumours have been confirmed, but Lucas is tight-lipped about what it will entail (other than being set between Episodes III and IV). The most persistent rumour is that it will focus on the career of Boba Fett.

Until about a year ago, I worked for my company at a Sony facility. Got to see some cool stuff when Spidey 1 came out, but nothing that cool. You definitely have to check out this one!!!
