i honestly don't see why everyone is saying spider man 2 is as good as, or better, than the first movie. i went on wednesday and i was more than a little disappointed. i won't give any specifics away...for those who haven't seen it yet...all i will say is that i could have done with more action and less personal soap opera stuff. there was all of about 10 minutes of action in the beginning, 10 minutes or so in the middle, and then about 15 minutes at the end...including the train segment. it was cool to see spidey's and mj's relationship and all that. it was cool to see them get into the troubles of being spider man. it was just a little too focused on personal stuff for me. i liked it and i would recommend it to people but i certainly would not say it even holds a candle to the first movie.

I guess I like all the "soap opera stuff." I like action scenes to be complemented by good character development. Personally, that's why I prefer it to the original, but people's taste in films are different so I can see somebody not liking it for that very reason.

The "personal stuff" has always been a central point of the Spider-Man mythos. Peter Parker is a super-hero, and yet he still goes through all the BS that everyone else does. He can spin webs and lift up ten times his body weight, yet he still has girl trouble. This is a big part of why the character has lasted so long in popularity. This film captured that aspect perfectly, much better than the first one did.

Add in that the acting was better, the pacing was tighter, the actions sequences were far superior, and the special effects were about a zillion times more advanced, and you see why folks liked this one better. Personally, I found this one to have MUCH more action than the first. I liken this one to The Empire Strikes Back, in the way it relates to the first film. It uses the first as a springboard, building on what was previously established, rather than trying to repeat it. The characters are developed more fully, fleshed-out completely, which is such a rarity these days (ESPECIALLY in action films).

2 and a half hours of GARBAGE!!!!
This film was CRAP!
There were too many un-needed lines in it, too.
Why did the crazed writers allow Spiderman to tell his girl that he didn't love her? How could they fix his lips to say such things? What kind of sick, twisted sh*t is that?
"Go get 'em tiger." Who writes crap like this?
Who in their freakin' mind wrote the crap about Spiderman revealing himself to EVERYONE? Even his enemies know who he is now!
This crap would'a never happened in the comic. Total sacrilegious CRAP!
I give this film 10 pooptoast's.

Ummm, all of that DID happen in the comic. Peter kept Mary Jane at bay for YEARS, due to his previous girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, being killed by the Green Goblin. She asked him, more than once, if he loved her, only to have Peter claim he didn't.

Oh, and "Go get 'em Tiger"? To answer your question, STAN LEE, the friggin' co-creator of Spider-Man, wrote that line IN THE COMICS. Mary Jane called Peter "Tiger" from her VERY FIRST APPEARANCE!!!

So, your saying that it was "sacreligious", and untrue to the comic, is just dead wrong.

Complaints? One or two. In the comic, Spidey wise-cracks to shake his enemies confidence. Much like the first film, this is down-played here. Spidey's smart-ass side needs to become more prevelant.

I miss that alot in these two movies... Those wisecracks make Spiderman...
I really hated the first one (still do) but this one was good...
This one had a real Spiderman moment too when he was in that elevator and had that little chat with that guy... Hilarious...
And Jedimaster, as I am not a hardcore Spiderman buff, is there any significance to Henry Jackson? (that little kid helping aunt May move...)
IMO he got namechecked too many times in that little scene to be a nobody...
