Mary had a PIMP! (Pimp the Simp)

"She was hired 2 be a ho

Didnt she know!?"

Who knew a killed prostitue song could be so funky?

review:

...some of the tracks are worthwhile, especially "P.I.M.P. The S.I.M.P."—a compelling piece of social commentary that describes the way a ruthless street pimp preys on young women. The tune isn't an indictment of prostitution in general; if anything, "P.I.M.P. The S.I.M.P." makes a case for legalizing the world's oldest profession because legal brothels (like the ones in Nevada and Holland) usually aren't run by the sort of vicious individuals that James' tunes describes. And "P.I.M.P. The S.I.M.P." not only sheds light on a social problem that Lois Lee's Children of the Night organization had been addressing—it also gives James a chance to feature old school rapper Grandmaster Flash, whose sociopolitical recordings of 1982 and 1983 influenced everyone from Public Enemy to Ice-T. -Alex Henderson

'Cold Blooded' was probably the last decent Rick James album, until 1997's 'Urban Rapsody'.In 1983,it introduced a whole new Rick James sound...less horns, more synths and drum machines, and a more stripped-down approach. There are some superb songs on this album....the title track, the lush duet with Smokey Robinson "Ebony Eyes",the shoulda-been-a-hit "New York Town" and of course,"P.I.M.P. The S.I.M.P.",an extremely funky message song.Other tracks are formulaic and cold-sounding,but overall,it's a vibrant album that really needs to be remastered and re-issued (it's currently out of print,I think).

Pimp the Simp is a overlooked classic. oh and Ebony Eyes. I never heard Urban Rapsody.
