For country/folk-y blues, go for Mississippi John Hurt. Funky/soulful guitar blues try Freddie King's "Texas Cannonball". The "This is Buddy Guy!" record that someone already recommended is a pretty good one, though "Stone Crazy!" is even better I think. You can never, never go wrong with Muddy Waters. Also pretty damn good: the 1930 recordings of Skip James, the Robert Johnson recordings, & Howlin' Wolf. For "where blues meets jazz guitar" from the very beginning, Lonnie Johnson. The link between Lonnie Johnson & BB King, not to mention Chuck Berry, and later Clapton, etc: T-Bone Walker.

Now Howling Wolf i really, really love. Though his voice is difficult to get into at first. Same with Robert Johnson's recordings. They take effort - but it's worth it. And frankly i will also say get anything by Leadbelly. Awesome. | |

Before I type it, here's a disclaimer: I hate most of the Aerosmith from 1980 on. Aerosmith's - Honkin' on Hobo Great album from beginning to end. It's got a couple of weak moments but overall it's what they needed to do at this point in their career to make them relavant again. AMEN, brotha! This one smokes. Get it NOW!!!! -One of the best JAZZ soundtracks in my opinion. Stachemo and Lady Day make some heavenly combonation, The Bluse Are Brewin'(My fave from her 
)
-This album rarely get any mention and I don't know why, her version of Ellington's "Do Nothin' Till You Hear from Me" is my FAVE.
-Her most CONTROVERSIAL/EARTHIEST/RAWEST album becoz of her vocal change. Ray Ellis(the album's arranger) as much of a prefectionist said that "I overlooked the 25,ooo bad notes over her powerful lyrics enterpetation. She poured her heart even tho she was in a bad condition and always came late and neva showed up to reharsel". Personaly, her vocal delievry in this album is much more effective to me then than it was in good shape.
