Van Halen is back, you rock-less sunsabitches!

I know this crowd is funk and soul but I like a lot of different music and this news warms the cackles of my soul.

Asde from the David Lee Roth was better arguments, the Hagar years personally got me through life. I didn't like there last album (VH III) with Gary Cherone that came out almost ten years ago, but I'm a die-hard fan. Good thing the first stop is the D yay!

Van Halen Summer Tour A Go

The long-rumored Van Halen summer tour is finally getting off the ground. The group's official Web site reports that Van Halen will play shows on dates yet to be announced in Detroit; East Rutherford, N.J.; Greensboro, N.C.; Hershey, Pa.; Kansas City, Mo.; Las Vegas; Philadelphia; St. Louis; St. Paul, Minn.; Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; and Worcester, Mass.

There has also yet to be a formal announcement as to who will fill the group's lead singer slot, although it appears Sammy Hagar has won back the job. Hagar replaced original vocalist David Lee Roth in 1985 and remained in Van Halen until 1996. Roth returned to the fold for a brief, disastrous stint that year to record two new songs for a greatest hits album, but did not collaborate with the band further.

Former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone took over lead vocal duties for 1998's "Van Halen III" and a tour later that year, the band's most recent to date. In a bizarre twist, Roth and Hagar embarked on co-headlining U.S. tour in 2002.

As a band, Van Halen is surrounded by numerous other uncertainties, from guitarist Eddie Van Halen's battle with cancer to its lack of a record deal. The group split with Warner Bros. in early 2002 after spending its entire career recording for the label.

Hagar has a handful of shows booked with his band the Waboritas into early May. Promoters previously confirmed to Billboard.biz that Van Halen had holds for late summer dates in several U.S. arenas. In recent weeks, the group also signed a deal for representation with the William Morris Agency.

i'm with you on that... i love hagar, i mean, love him... and if he had been the only lead singer van halen never had, then i wouldn't have seen anything wrong with him, but he just didn't feel as right following the charisma of david lee roth...roth had more character...

and when hagar joined the band, they did expand their sound a lot to include more love songs and ballads... it's commendable and all that, but i don't want love songs and ballads out of van halen (although "right now" is the freakin' shit)...

I resisted Van Halen for the longest time because my older sister always blasted Def Leppard, Ratt, Bon Jovi, and Van Halen all the time back in the day. I just lumped them all together and hated them all.

Well, I loved the Roth years, but let's face it, Diamond Dave long ago lost his sparkle. Now he's an old asshole still pathetically trying to hold on to his glory days. If there is to be a reunion, it would be better with Hagar.

Hagar's time with the band wasn't as consistent as Roth's, but it still produced some of their best stuff ("Poundcake" is classic Halen all the way through). Sure, there was some crap like "I Can't Stop Loving You" barf, but the good definitely outweighed the bad. Plus, Sammy is just a really cool guy (Michael Anthony has actually been playing with the Waboritos, off and on, for a while now).

As for poor Gary Cherone, I always felt like he got a raw deal. I mean, he just didn't fit with Van Halen. His style was so different, and he just never could find his niche with them. Of course, its not his fault. I mean, who wouldn't have wanted to take that gig? He tried man, he truly did.

Sammy Hagar returns to Van Halen

After months of speculation, Van Halen are hitting the road for the first time in six years with a familiar face back in the lineup -- Sammy Hagar.

Hagar, who split with the group in 1996, is back in the fold after he and the other members of Van Halen met last November and put aside their past differences.

Since then, the reunited quartet have recorded several songs which will appear on a forthcoming best-of album, sources told Livedaily.com.

The band hasn't toured since 1998 when they hit the road behind "Van Halen 3" with former Extreme vocalist Gary Cherone. The Cherone experiment ended up being a commercial failure and he left the band shortly after work began on a follow-up release in 1999.

The upcoming summer tour will kick off in Hershey, PA on June 13, and other confirmed stops include Detroit, East Rutherford, Greensboro, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, St. Louis, St. Paul, Wilkes-Barre and Worcester.

There is no word on Canadian dates as yet, but more shows are expected to be added shortly.

OK this is GREAT NEWS-and while I'm more partial to David LEe ROth VH stuff I can't stand his ego and his bad face lifts he's had so I"d welcome Sammy back with open arms.

My question is...there was so much bad blood between sammy and the band - even as of last summer. How much money did it take for them to reconcile?

I thought the same exact thing! I remember very vividly Sammy doing an interview with Howard Stern (I've heard it at least twice) saying he would never come back and the Van Halen brohters screwed him over (he says he is cool with Michael Anthony). I think he said he wouldn't do it unless he needed money...hmmm....I know that Sammy's solo albums never caught fire after Van Halen and I think that tour with Diamond Dave was a flop.
