1-OPEN ARMS (1995)-I think this is her best cover of them all...this Journey song is so beautiful, so epic and MC has never sounded better. This one is my favorite...almost more than the original! 2-THE WIND (1991)-Though I don't know who did the original..she blew this one away and really showed her versatiltiy early on. No matter what MC does in the future...this song will always showcase what she originally set to offer us. She really should show this side of her more often! 3-DIDNT MEAN TO TURN YOU ON (2001)-Identical to the original Cherrelle verision..this one is funky, fun and takes me back to the original Minneapolis Sound of the early-mid 80's. She basically copied the original track but it proved to be highly enjoyable regardless of what movie it happened to support! 4-WITHOUT YOU (1993)-Dramatic in every way. I loved this the first time I heard it. Again..as with 'Open Arms' she captures the drama of the song very well and she makes it her own! 5-I'LL BE THERE (1992)-This was live Mariah at her best. This was before the vocal gymnastics and she sounded amazing. Trey Lorenz's vocals offered the perfect match to Mariah's. I'm sure the Jackson's were pleased. 6-I STILL BELIEVE (1998)-She originally sang this with Brenda K.Starr and though I'm partial to the original..this was a sweet tribute to her days as a background singer. 7-AGAINST ALL ODDS (1999)-Though I hate Phil Collins..I do like this verison...granted Mariah oversang the hell outta this song...even climaxing to a big SKREEECH...It was inspired and no matter what anyone says..I sang along at the top of my lungs myself! 8-DONT PLAY THAT SONG (1990)-She did Aretha and honestly...you cant fuck with the sacred. Though it she meant well...I can't listen to this one. 9-ENDLESS LOVE (w/ Luther Vandross) (1994)-Again...you cant mess with a perfect original...but with Luther and Mariah..you gotta respect it a little bit (at least the Luther part)..but I still thought it was very unnessasary. 10-BRINGIN ON THE HEARTACHE (2002)-The Def Leppard original was a great hard rock tune...Mariah sang this one like a wounded animal and I was totally unimpressed. She could've sand the HELL out of this tune but she did not...I digress. 11-THE BEAUTIFUL ONES (1997)-Don't fuck with the sacred...period...BIG PERIOD! peace Ben E. King did "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)" first, did he not? I always thought his was the definitive version. It rocks. Anyway, all of these covers are unnecessary. Any subtlety Mariah had on her debut went out the window with her second record. Great voice technically, but she's on par with Celine if you know what I mean - she can do vocal acrobatics without making you feel a thing.

I agree with #7 - This song is not meant for her and her high octaves. Phil Collins (and I like his stuff) does a better job anyways. Edmonton, AB - |

what about that terrible remake of "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life". I wouldve been good without Busta & Fab. Good lawd, then threw in DJ Clu screamin in it When we say that the purpose of life is to find God, surely that desire to find God is an escape from life -Conciouscontact

My personal favourite Mariah cover is "The beautiful ones"!! I think her and Sisqo take the song to a different level as a duet

I still say this is her best cover. Dare I say, better than the original. 10-BRINGIN ON THE HEARTACHE (2002)-The Def Leppard original was a great hard rock tune...Mariah sang this one like a wounded animal and I was totally unimpressed. I agree. Had she not used the vocal stylings of a back singer for a rapper this song would've been great. 11-THE BEAUTIFUL ONES (1997)-Don't fuck with the sacred...period...BIG PERIOD!
This would've been a solid cover had Sisquo and his posses not been on it, I think even Prince said this (in a more subtle polite way). Plus it drags on way too long, there's only so much you can do with 3 verses and chrouses. This one had potential ~KiKi

I give her covers all zeroes just like I would most people's. Folks need to get their own original ideas.
