Magazine music news that was wrong (or shelved)

I recall reading in 1990 or 1991 that Marky Mark was recording a song that sampled Commodores' "Brick House", but when his debut album Music For The People was released, the sample did not appear on any of the tracks. sad

I recall reading in a newspaper or magazine that Michael Jackson was going to release an entire album of Beatles songs. This was a year or so after the Jacksons' Victory album came out. There was also supposed to be a Jackson family concert or tour with all 9 siblings in Korea or somewhere.

There was a story about The Beatles might be getting back together around 1981 for a tour, but then John Lennon died.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I wonder if he actually considered doing that or if it was just a misunderstanding of him acquiring their catalog that year.

He did release Come Together in the Moonwalker movie. There's a rumor that he recorded Strawberry Fields and a couple of other songs. It's not an official recording but there's a clip of Mike singing Dig It. I think that was from the 1990s though.

Speaking of Marky Mark. I saw an intervew a little while back that Donnie Wahlberg did. Donnie said that the Marky Mark record was originally his album and the Funky Bunch was his group. Donnie gave it to Mark to give him something to do because he was getting into trouble and was probably going to wind up in prison. Donnie's album was mostly finished, Mark just replaced Donnie's raps. Mark was also originally a part of New Kids On The Block.

That's right, he DID cover "Come Together" in Moonwalker and can be heard remixed on HIStory.

That absolutely makes sense because the pictures I remember from that story about sampling "Brick House" was him and Donnie in the studio.
