I kind of agree wih Britney being #1. She became a phenomenon with that song. The album sold over 25 million copies worldwide and sold over 14 million in the US, giving her her first diamond album. That song propelled her to the icon she os today! I also agree with the Jackson 5 having the #2 spot as well. I was surprised to see no Beyonce on the list. Crazy In Love was a huge hit and still gets radio play and is played at parties and clubs all the time. Interesting. There really does need to be a format for these lists though, cuz Roling STone just slaps a bunch of songs together sometimes lol.

my thing with Alicia is one that the machine was pushing her day one, she was a hit before the music came out, and IMO I'm not a fan of that first album overall, I get she is a big artist and that song propelled her but the machine also hugely pushed her, she was Arista, Norah was on blue note and each week that song rose climbed a little at a time she was all word of mouth, and her album sold 10,000 first week, now that would be a big deal and back then she said Holy cow because she didn't think it would catch, and each week it went up 20k 40k etc...

What? That is a classic R&B album with several classic songs. Her best album is her second one, Diary of Alicia Keys. That is just my opinion though.

So fuckin weird that Beyoncé is not here and neither is Mariah.

Technically, that isn't their debut single. It was Big Boy. That's kinda like when the Grammys gives a Best New Artist award to performers who had records out already.

Destiny's Child is at #89. Why would she get put on the list as a solo act? I don't see anybody else that was in a group listed separately.

They weren't. Only the groups they come from are on the list. Someone going solo is not a debut since they are not a new unknown act. It's not like Destiny's Child was some obscure group in which the general public would not have known she was in it.

Actually that Austin Powers song Work It Out was her first song and it peaked at #92 on the Hot 100. IDK if that counts as her debut single tho since it was only on the Austin Powers soundtrack, I don't think ti was officialy realeased as her "debut single". Crazy In Love is a huge and iconic hit though. It's certified gold, but it's sold over 7 million units in the US
