Music box vs. butterfly, which Mariah record is better?

I can’t choose between the two and have to go with both. Which one do you find better, to be the superior album and why?

"Musicbox" for me. Strangely, mainly becsuse of the two tracks that didnt make it onto the U.S. pressing of the CD. "Everything Fades Away" (with a guest vocal from Will Downing) is one of my favorite Mimi tracks but only appeared on the import pressings. "Do You Think of Me", the non- album b side to "Dreamlover" is also another one of my favorites. While the "Butterfly" album was good, I didnt connect as strongly to any of the songs. The gusto that she normally had in her voice was also gone. The only song she belted was the title track and that ended too soon.

Can’t let go is one of her best songs ever!

Aw really? I agree some of her best work is on there but as an album start to finish, not even on the same level as butterfly

For me Butterfly is her best album, and the album I like the most. I like Music Box a lot, but what a shame she didn't include Everything Fades Away and Do You Think Of Me on Music Box and Slippin Away on Daydream, those albums would have been much better had them been included.

I don't know why "Slipping Away" wasn't included on the "Daydream" album. Another excellent tune that too many people missed out on. But, as far as the other two tunes from "Musicbox", I heard from a couple of different sources that Tommy left them off the CD because he didn't want the album to sound as R&B as "Emotions". He wanted a stronger overall Pop feel since "Emotions", which leaned more towards R&B, was considered a flop at the time with "only" 3 million copies sold. How times have changed. 3 million copies sold in 2020 would be considered a massive success.

You're probably right but it's like... aside from "Honey" I never go back to it.

I don't get why those wonderful songs aren't on streaming platforms at least.

Music Box kinda transports me to being 13 years old again, and that's not always the best. lol

I also find SOME of C&C's production too tacky to enjoy anymore. ill

I agree. It's a shame that the movie and negative publicity surrounding her at that time ruined a solid album. Glitter is definitely her most underrated album. My favorite album by her is Daydream.

No I like a lot of their dance stuff from the early 90s, especially Seduction. But I prefer what they did on Emotions over Music Box.

Her latest album is a great recent offering she sounds modern without losing her essence. Caution is such a great album.
