Abra appreciation thread

Is it just me or does Abra barely get a mention here on the org? I´ve used the searchbox and all I could find were some old posts of mine where I mentioned her a couple of years ago, and I had completely forgotten about those posts myself and was suprised to see what I wrote years ago.

But anyway....are there any orgers here who are just as much into Abra´s music as I am?

I love the simplicity of her music, the deep, booming, sexy basslines, the melodies, the overall dark , melancholic and brooding atmosphere and the overall sadness and her romantic lyrics.

And she seems to be really down to earth as far as I can see and from what I read in interviews.

I love her voice and think she´s truly talented.

I also love the mysterious aura that is still surrounding her years after she first stepped on the scene...reminds me a little bit of the mysterious aura that Prince had when his career started.

And in this day and age of social networks and the internet it is much more difficult to maintain that mystique.

My favorite Abra songs are still Fruit and U Go, I Go, but she´s got dozens of great songs.

Maybe not great if judged by real musicians who prefer a full band and instruments but I don´t care, I really like her music and it soothes the soul. It´s amazing what you can do with a laptop and a microphone in your bedroom.

Her videos are really interesting and creative, too.

Hypnotizing is an adjective that´s used a bit too often by her fans to describe her music but it´s so fitting....her beats and lyrics and voice are truly hypnotizing, magical and very addictive.

I listen to some of her songs for hours upon hours.

I really liked Rose but kind of feel it fell just short of being great. It sounded great but not sure the songs quite lived up to it.

Well, that´s true but my expectations weren´t very high to begin with so I really like her output a lot.

I think it´s amazing that she keeps it so simple and yet achieves quite a lot.

And these days I´m really grateful for evey little bit of new music that catches my interest for more than a couple of listens. wink
