Janelle Monae to induct Janet Jackson into RocknRoll hall of fame 2019

https://www.vibe.com/2019/03/janelle-monae-janet-jackson-rock-hall-of-fame

This link was sent by a friend to me.

Weird how major entertainment sites are not covering this story. Makes me wonder if this is due to the whole HBO MJ documentary thing. Is Janet ok btw...

Regardless. Never been a major fan of hers but overall prefer her catalog to MJ's.

Any 90's kid up here?

I'm a 90s kid! Never been a fan of Janet Jackson though. Her speech should be interesting though. She'll get criticised if she mentions Michael Jackson and she'll get criticised if she doesn't. It's a no win situation for her.

90's tho right?! headbang

Agreed with the bolded part, but I hope she doesn't mention him. Hope the night is about her and no one mentions MJ

I am a huge Janet fan. And yes I notice that major outlets are not covering this. And YES it is due to Leaving Neverland. When that documentary was first mentioned over a month ago I was like Ugh this shit is gonna affect Janet. Especially since it's on HBO. Janet is in a no win situation. If she defends her brother she will be bashed. If she doesn't defend her brother she will be bashed. I have already seen articles talking about how the Jackson family is supposedly mad that she hasn't defended Michael publicly. Although Taj disputes this notion. It is so fu*ked up because she has nothing to do with this. I hope she doesn't say anything about this especially while recieving her induction.

I am not sure if I totally agree with this. Lemme build a quick case: because, they're siblings... she's going to mention everyone. She's had a video of "Scream" in her shows since 2011 (I was at the Up Close & Personal Tour in 2011 in NYC, I believe it was the first time she started using his image on the video screen.) She also uses pics of them a lot during "Together Again". I am not sure in a potentially long speech (as most are) that she would totally avoid mentioning Michael Jackson. She's certainly worked hard to separate herself from his career while establishing her own, until she was at a spot where she could and still maintain her credibility as a solo artist.

I believe whatever she says will be far and above any mention of her brother(s). I think Jimmy & Terry will get bigger nods, John McClain, etc. I really hope we get a story or an anecdote about something we've never heard before. At 50+ years old, she's really earned the right to say whatever she wants, and fuck the critics in the audience. She so deserves this, after nipplegate and fighting her way back from the white dinosaurs that run entertainment (including Les Moonves's shittastic life) into a #1 independent album, a #1 book (which Moonves hated got past him), and sold out tours, all on her own terms.

I believe like she's never been a more complete and ultimate artist than right now. So go' on girl, mention MJ.

She could just mention her family in general.

I feel the same way. I felt they was going to come after her again. When Janet is FINALLY getting her just do. She has not really dealt with the press since she came back on the scene with her "Unbreakable" album & tour. But Janet has been in this situation before with having to deal with MJ's accusations, when he was alive. They couldn't wait to try to ruin her legacy with the superbowl incident. I think her best bet is to not do any interviews like she's been doing. Live her best life! She is the sole star of The Jackson family now & she's earned it.

So I guess it's not JJ & Lewis for Janet Jackson. biggrin

Billboard.com

Harry Styles, who will do the honors for Stevie Nicks, who will become the first woman to be inducted twice, in 1998 for her work in Fleetwood Mac and this year for her solo career.

I can't imagine they wouldn't speak as well. Has it always been one person doing it? They could also be in a pre-taped piece, obviously.

Yeah, as I said, I was never a fan of her music but these stories about her brother put her in a tough spot. People will be waiting with pitchforks for her to mention MJ and if she doesn't mention him, she'll have a bunch of lunatic MJ fans slating her for it.

Lol! Some folks were upset that Janet's team switched her name around to be first. I say... Shit... That's where she is to be!!! And a lot of people agreed with that statement.

i think this would be the wisest choice. Joe and Michael led the way for her, certainly the Jackson family was encouraging. She could somehow just say she is grateful for their support in so many ways.

With all my reservations about MJ, I'm still going to understand if a sister speaks on her late brother in a personal moment for her.

I read in the Post that JJ and Radiohead will not be performing, JJ apparently due to rehearsals for the new show, damn that's cutthroat she's looking after her coins. RRHOF is a nice honor and I'm happy for her to be but its not her demo really. She has made a few decent rock songs in her long career.
