Mad to see St. Vincent at this level of fame.

Someone could have said the same for Prince at his time tho, that he looked like a Little Richard/ James Brown/Jimi Hendrix impersonation. There's more to Janelle's art than just that, exactly like there was more for Prince.

You just named a blend of three. Monae seems to be mainly echoing Prince alone (except for that little james Brown break)

Now, if she mixed up Prince with Biz Markie and Captain and Tennille I would sit up straight.

I thought Janelle and H.E.R were the real Prince tributes he needed. It's not about his old band mates singing his songs in ruffled shirts (fun as that is), it's about his genius filtered to a new generation, and them being young Black women at that.

I want to like H.E.R. but from what I heard, her songs sound the same as just about any other modern female "R&B" artist.

Same slow, downbeat, boring, monotonous production and talk/sing like Rihanna vocals. No thanks.

Simple case of being better live than on record.

I blame production.

I suggest to listen to her records or watch an entire show. There's more to her music than just a Prince influence.

I have the same problem with H.E.R. I want to like her but I think her music is boring. neutral

I'm talking specifically about the performance I linked, not her albums.
