Ella Mai

Anyone digging new sensation Ella Mai? She already had a smash Boo'd Up

Now she has a new single Trip. I gave the album a listen and I dig it.

I came away impressed. Nice voice and she's mad cute. And the English accent love

Don't laugh at my funk

I was at her concert last night, in Hamburg (Germany) .
It was a great R'n'B-show.
A little short (65 minutes), but cool anyway.
I really enjoyed it!

Her tone slightly reminds me of gospel singer Koryn Hawthorne - but as a secular version.

Fabulous album!! Actually "Trip" already hit #1 on the Rhythmic charts in December and her third single, "Shot Clock" is already out.

I first saw her sing Boo'd Up on Kimmel sometimes last year and thought she

didn't have a bad voice despite the infantile title. Then I started hearing Trip on the

radio and decided to give her album a listen. I dig Shot Clock too.

She is one of the new artists that gives me hope for R&B to make a real comeback.

Heard a lot of buzz about Ella and decided to sample some of her past EP's and ultimately her latest album. Yes, while she is very attractive and her main singles are very catchy, her music sounds like everything else that's on the radio in my town. This is not a good thing to me. It blends in too well with everything that's in "popular" music today.

For me, the missing element in her music is SOUL. The kind of soul that made Goapele such a unique artist although she was one of many in the "neo" soul movement at that time. I'd like to see her expand her range vocally and dig deeper. Ella has a lot of potential and hopefully her music will mature as she grows in the music biz.

Maybe you need to hear her perform live. Her voice is very charming!
