I envy the Bowie fans. His estate really has their act together. Prince's unfortunately does not. neutral

I am eternally grateful to the Bowie Estate for showering us with such wonderful gifts since his passing!! 4 massive extensive CD Box Sets(Five Years, Who Can I Be Now, A New Career In A New Town, Loving The Alien), Endless official beautiful books, etc. and now, just released yesterday on what would have been his 72nd birthday an official iPhone/Smartphone app entitled DavidBowieIs!!

Princes' Estate on the other hand has been in total shambles since his passing!!! sad sad sad

The difference with Bowie and Prince needs to be pointed out yet again. ONE Bowie was already releasing these types of things prior to his death stuff like this is all over the place, Prince was never doing this in life, with the exception of things like Crystal Ball, Chocolate Invasion and the other NPG club releases which were called new albums. Bowie has things in order and knew death was near, had a wife kids etc...such a totally different situation, Prince had none of that, no kids, two ex wives that he had NO contact too a first wife that he annulled the marriage, the second divorce I have heard was not a good situation either. Plus Prince as we know had no will, and also who knows how things are handled, Bowie’s demos and stuff where not locked in a vault that were all visible and obtainable with no problems. A lot of what is happening is people have so many Prince bootlegs, that anything that will come out we are going to have an issue with. Be it the Purple Rain release or Piano and a Microphone 1983, we seem to think they have things ready to roll out for death. Bowie was also in a much different situation with his label, Prince has things all over the place, stuff for Warner, NPG, then things sold to universal publishing, who knows, I keep telling people do not expect things, when Prince got free the flood gates did not open, in fact he released less, so in death don’t expect a lot more music.

For some reason, I feel that Bowie had his estate planned out prior to his death. Prince didn't plan anything (at least it seems this way).

No arguement there. I completely agree with you. He should've at the very least had a will. It was very irresponsible of him not to have had one.

Maybe Prince just didn't care. Maybe he felt or knew that after he was gone, that none of it would matter to him anymore anyhow! He knew that he couldn't take it with him, so maybe he said "let family, the estate, whomever, do whatever they have to do with it, because it will no longer be of any concern to me"....Sure, some may see it as being irresponsible, but we all know that Prince did whatever the hell Prince wanted to do, and didn't care what anyone thought about it. lol

I said this a few months ago and people were shocked. But Prince said numerously money has no power eventually and also that he would just give it away. Why do we assume he had it stored ready to roll I mean he had no will and there was no direction even if he didn't think he'd die so young if he cared about those things it would have been lined up

Honestly though a will would be useless in this matter, it would only be a dictation of funds and with all the musicians and proteges he had etc...who's making that call on who gets this and that. As for his music same deal, Prince was not really too tight with labels anymore who knows where this stuff is how it's kept who played on tracks who did not since he was infamous for not crediting people early on his career. So I say hold on to your bootlegs cause that might the best you get. And as Morris Hayes said "if they need my help with the material from my times with him, just call me"

Not to discredit any opinion in this thread, but I'm wondering because I'm still confused; why do we still expect anything from Prince' estate when they themselves gave everything away to Sony's Legacy? Shouldn't the latter be responsible for what we want from now onward already?

things will happen when they happen. I think when PRINCE died everyone assumed the flood gates would open which outside of videos and things popping up, that many have seen, people generally feel they are going to get all this "STUFF". I mean if you are looking for vault stuff from way back, really? I mean he didnt even go back and reelase this stuff when he had no contracts over him, outside of the Crystal Ball package PRINCE is not that nostalgic, he feels he did it, lets move on, even though its saved i dont think he was attached to it, maybe saying he didnt care was overboard, but it is close i feel. Prince got bored with everything QUICK. Remember that whole I am going to re-do all my albums, well it turns out he asked Mr Hayes to engineer this and take out any swearing, and Mr Hayes said "NO" i am not doing that, it was a part of your history and you cant take it back, its cool if you dont think you should curse but you cant put white out over everything you thought wasnt nice to say. SO I think right now we are going to get odds and ends, these vinyl and cd issues coming I know people are saying WE GOT THAT, but also fans have to get it that the labels dont care that you have 30 bootlegs or went to 100 shows etc...or you want PRINCE to release all his shows like pearl jam does etc... Prince is a totally different person that we think we understand but i think we never will.
